Bloom store coming to Leonardtown?

Eat More Beef, Less Chkn
All I know...

is that when I shopped in Food Lion, I felt as if I was always getting ripped off. After a bit, I stopped going and opted to loose the extra 10 minutes to drive to the McKays in Charlotte Hall. I was really taken in by that store - not too impressed with the old look BUT they had variety - something which Food Lion lacks greatly. I spent my first $100 in McKays and walked out feeling as if I really got a good deal on my groceries. I didnt feel ripped off. Prices were very reasonable as far as I am concerned.

Then day before yesterday, I heard the McKays opened in L'town. I was anticipating the store's opening afterall. From the moment I drove up i was taken in with the way they had redone the front. The last time i had seen the building - nothing had been done to it and McKays had just started running the "coming soon" ads in their papers. So, as you may expect, i was surprised to see the new face-lift of the store front.

As I approached the front doors, there to the left was the new cart sanitizing machine. i heard it is the only one on the east coast (as scuttlebutt goes). I am impressed to see a grocery store stepping up with such technology. My sister's kid contracted the rhino (sp?) virus as a toddler from a Wal-Mart cart and now has respiratory problems. So, this tells me that McKays really cares about it's customers.

I got inside and the floor was the first thing to catch my eye - real hardwood flooring. If it is laminate - it sure looked real enough for me. What a sharp appearance. The vegetable section was HUGE (yeah - second thing to catch my eye). There was so much variety there as swell...and big suprise - prices were much more reasonable than food lions.

From there I just walked around. I discovered that they have a butcher in the meat department - a sea food department - full bakery - pharmacy ...

I just dont know what to say...there is just too much to mention. If you have not been to the McKays there in L'town....you have all ready done yourself an injustice. You HAVE to go.

Simply put - I'm hooked!

I went to a Blooms in Indian Head some time ago. It was a nice clean place and did have an upper end feel to it. I guess if you could compare Target to K-mart it would give you the same feeling. Far as I was concerned it was just another supermarket though my rugrat loved the shopping carts with the little car built into them so she could feel like she was drivin around! They have those everywhere now pretty much.

Yeah, I stopped in the new McKay's on Friday and was very impressed. Beautiful store, nice layout, and lots of high-scale items to draw people in. (Think of Woodburn's if it were newer, larger and cleaner).

The produce section, the meat department, and the seafood section looked wonderful.

:yay:

True and I love it but the Scallops wrapped in bacon are $1.39 a piece! :faint:

Cripes! That's a lot of money.

I can see me now..... "Hey, Mr. Seafood Guy, can you wrap me up two of those bacon-wrapped scallops, please. Yes, sir, just two."

No kidding! I even combed the store for just plain scallops, to no avail! Had a pound of bacon and everything. :holdme:

Bloom stores are nice. I didn't get it either at first, the whole upscale Food Lion thing. It's true though. The stores are set up way nicer with great looking fruits and veggies and meats. Bloom carries organic and ethnic foods as well. The one by me is always clean and stocked. The big perk is that whatever is on sale at Food Lion is also on sale at Bloom; you just don't have to give them an MVP card because the sales are automatically deducted at the register.

My understanding is that Bloom is Food Lion's stab at the "upper class". They aren't taking over the existing Food Lions.

Loving My Life...
It has to do with the people that work at the store. They can fancy it up all they want, but if the same ppl are working the store it will be just as bad. IMO

Actually it more about the management. Strong management won't tolerate poor workers. Good training will make a better business. Think about it, there are only so many workers out there, what makes one business better than another? This is especially true in the restaurant trade. The better restaurants do a better job of training and supervising their staff.

The only problems I've ever had with LT Foodlion employees, is with the Deli Staff. What a bunch of lazy no good ........
