Actually it more about the management. Strong management won't tolerate poor workers. Good training will make a better business. Think about it, there are only so many workers out there, what makes one business better than another? This is especially true in the restaurant trade. The better restaurants do a better job of training and supervising their staff.

Yeah...

I've only been there a few times. Only to pick up an emergency item on the way home. I have not lived in the Leonardtown area since I was 18. So far the best stocked store I've been to in St. Mary's is SFW. They have alot of the odd items that you can't find anywhere else.

i shop here, but it looks like they could do better on keeping the shelves better stocked.

BL, you gonna take that?
:yeahthat: I know that is pure :bs: because I've been in there a hundred times and have not once had a problem finding anything. I've never been in that place and not seen someone stocking shelves.

are you referring to the food lion or sfw; in my dealings with sfw(unless there's more than 1), when i stop in after work, i have noticed that the shelves tend to not be stocked(could be the popular/common everyday items  ) or fronted and empty boxes on the shelves. of course, it's no biggy because i just don't do food lion or mckays.

i'm not knocking sfw because it's where i shop along with giant. nothing like going into a grocery store, getting what you want and pretty much, walk up to the register :yay:

mmmmhmmmmm
I shop at the Food Lion in Leonardtown and I always have to ask the stock guys if they have the product in the back. They usually do. It gets frustrating. Every food Lion I have been to is like that (never been to Callaway store). I have shopped at Food Lion my whole life. Can't imagine going somewhere else but that Mc Kay's is tempting

that's pretty much how i feel about sfw, it's my comfort zone; i can go in there and pretty much know where everything is located; new to st. mary's so i'm learning that one

Most times you can find the product. However, I agree with beamher that the shelves especially could be stocked more thoroughly. If it really bugs you, I'd suggest writing a short succinct letter to management expressing as much. Maybe they'll finally put a boot in the shady night crew. It is primarily night crew's responsibility to order and stock the shelves almost every night. What they usually do is order a bit less here and there so that there are far less pieces overall to put up that night. I continually express as much concern to management on specific items/sections, perhaps something will change when I'm working more hours in a few weeks. Inevitably I'll be leaving, thus I can only improve my performance and the performance of others for only so long.

Of course, there are popular/common everyday items that get hit on specific days (WIC and foodstamps week), I still believe this to be a cop-out though. I believe a store should have a continual healthy stock elsewhere so as the shelf/display is never empty. SFW has a decent backstock on its sale items "end cap items", which is what I work with usually. Not every single item can be backstocked though; we just don't have the room.

I may come off as speaking high and mighty but I take each and every job with a certain seriousness, even if I'm shoveling poo.

i don't sweat the small stuff; if what i want is not on the shelves, i substitute or put it on the list for next time

still love the customer service when i'm there :yay:

i live in leonardtown and have been shopping at the foodlion there (sorry to say) since moving to the area. i agree with the other posts they are constantly out of things and the customer service is terrible.

i won't have to worry about that any longer. the new mckays is great. extremely clean, fully stocked, everything you could need.

i really never thought i would shop there because i have been to other mckays and lets just say if you walk into a grocery store and it either smells of rotten meat or seafood that is not where i will be shopping.

foodlion needs to do something fast or they will be going down quick.

i even saw the previous manager of the leonardtown foodlion is now a manager at the leonardtown mckays :jameo:

I decided to email Bloom and ask them if they have any plans for St. Mary's County. I will let you know what they say.

Still would love to have a Trader Joes...

There are no blooms coming to southern md. The reason that a bloom truck may be seen here and there is that Food Lion created Bloom about 2 years ago. There are a HUGE number of stores in the area directly around DC and northern Virginia. All Bllom, Bottom Dollar and Food Lion store are serviced out of the same Warehouse, just across the border into PA.

Since there are two Food Lions in the Solomon's area wouldn't this be a D'OH!!

The old food lion in solomons is closing. Last I heard from a worker they would only be open another year, but I spoke to this person over 5 months ago. Blooms will take its place.I cant stand either one of those stores. They never have anything in stores I need no matter what day I go in either one. The meats suck. People have been nice but getting things I need is a waste of my time. The only thing I do buy are smokes which is something I need to stop spending my money on. If only I could stop. Or perhaps I have not worked at it hard enough.

That food lion is NOT closing, nor is it converting to anything. The new store was opened for a reason. The Solomons store was just doing too much business for what it can handle(Exactly what Leonardton is going through) The new one onpened to offset the business from St Leonard, Lusby, and the Ranch Club. Now the Solomons one primarily handles customers from Solomons Asbury and any visitors going to the island or out on the water.
