Plus these are way more maneuverable than the Phantoms which had some serious wing cracks. That and the fuel is why they went to the old (modified) A4s which also put on a good show for a 1950s attack bird.
One of the best aerobatic shows Anita and I have seen was when we were at Eglin AFB, FL in the early 80's.
The Thunderbirds were supposed to be at the yearly air show in July 1982, but the whole diamond formation augered into the desert during mid- January.
The Armament Lab's A-10's replaced the T-birds. Amazingly agile. The whole performance was kept within easy sight of the grandstands.
