Blue-eyed Blues

Something really different from Peter Green. This is more mournful, lonesome blues than we're used to from him.

Long-time fan of JJ Cale and Leon Russell. You can hear the blues and the bayou and the rhythm and the finger-style pickin' in the so-called Tulsa Sound. Excellent stuff with some side commentary.

With blue-eyed blues, I never stray too far from Peter Green and early Fleetwood Mac. I swear, Mick Fleetwood probably looked the same at 2 years old as he did in this video (@2:00 minute mark) as he does today.

This is a two-fer. Same song by different mega groups. "The Green Manalishi (With The Two Prong Crown)."

Fleetwood Mac's version:

Judas Priest's:

Regarding the previous post, I've always had a love-hate relationship with Judas Priest. I either love the song, or I hate it. Not much ambivilence in that regard. I actually love their version of "The Green Manalishi (With The Two Prong Crown)."

Anyway, back to Peter Green and music for the soul, and one of his all-time best efforts:

I love almost everything she does, but I really love it when Nora sings the blues.

This is a pretty decent cover of the song "Glad," which is from Traffic's "John Barleycorn Must Die" album. Of course it'll never be the same as the original, but that's to be expected.

The drummer is Butch Trucks, former Allman Brothers Band drummer. The bassist is Berry Oakley, Jr.—the son of the Allman Brothers Band’s founding bassist. I'm not sure who the keyboardist is, but it may be former Greg Allman band member Bruce Katz. I don't know him by sight, or even by sound, since I was never a big Greg Allman fan.

I've been a fan of Laura Chavez and Joanne Shaw Taylor for at least an hour now.

Fiona Boyes Live on BRI TV playing "Louisiana."

Fiona played her four string ‘FB Australian Classic” cigar box guitar (tuned to Bb F Bb F) through our Fender Mustang Amp. Her slide is a miniature Aquavit bottle partially weighted with Irish Whiskey. Fiona’s tone speaks for itself.

You don't hear this guy's name come up very often when people talk about the great guitarists, which makes him our secret, I guess.
