Blue screen of death

I could say the same thing about all my systems, never have had any issues, they stay up and running days on end without even a hiccup. Only BSOD I've ever had came when a hard drive failed which had nothing to do with the OS. I won't say one is better than the other. Both have their own issues, and both have their own perks. I was just stating that the article was clearly biased.
All operating systems crash. Most of the time it has nothing to do with the actual OS, more often than not it could be traced back to some 3rd party application. I've seen plenty of Windows BSODs and OS X systems crashes (even saw a video where Steve Jobs himself had it happen during a demo). Neither one is bullet proof, it all depends on what you do with the system. Truthfully I think Linux is the superior system hands down, but its lack of support by developers makes it impractical for most.

I hammer away @ my Dell 400SC (P4 2.4, 3 Gb Ram, 1 40 Gb System Drive 1 320 Gb Storage Drive, ATI 8500 Video Card - yeah its old) all day long, Games, Internet, System Monitoring util's but invariably i need to reboot every couple days - my Apple G4 450 OX 10.3.* sits quietly serving my iTunes checking my Comcast Mail and I used ti to login to my buddies X Server where I am hosting web pages for my Ebay Auctions ......... i haven't rebooted since the last round of Apple Updates ........

I guess the biggest thing is my XP systems gets harder use, WOW will not run more than 4 hrs with out blue screening the system :smack: ........ but I can play Anarchy Online for 14 hrs straight with no issues ........

it probably has more to due with my old video card - no new drivers updates from ATI - it is considered Legacy now ........ but the error codes and recovery after words do not say anything about a driver issue .....

IRQ_Less_Than or Equal to ........

IMHO Macs rule though , moms mac mini sleep for weeks and happily wakes upo for end of month bill time, and goes back to sleep ....

FYI - My j-o-b is supporting windows environments, 2000, XP, 2003, SQL, Exchange - so I have a fair amount of Windows experiance

and we have used Macs @ home since 1988 when a Mac Plus was a $ 5000 System - with a whopping 1 mb of memory

Windows XP

Added annual update to Norton Anti-virus software and updated Turbo Tax files.

I was wondering too about heat and dust. I turned it off this morning so I think I'll check for dust this evening when I get home.

One other thing...I'm thinking about transferring my files using an external hard drive case. We did this before with an earlier crash and were able to save most of my files this way.

One other other thing....Mac? Do these type of issues occur with Macs?

Did you crack the case and vacuum out the innards and blow out the nooks and crannies with caned air ?

I have only caused a Kernal Panic in my Mac G4 3 times when I 1st got it in 2001 - because i was using an Adaptec SCSI card that wasn't really supported by the early versions of OSX - 10.1, 10.2 - and that was usually coming out of sleep mode - other wise there were not any crashing issues .......... yes applications will Occasionally quite responding and one must force quit something - but a I have this Issue in XP as well .........

Of course you can. But, I don't play games (except a few card games) on my Mac. I did the video games thing when I was 12.

Really? There are 5 Macs in this house, and I don't recall one of them ever crashing. Also, we've never had a virus in this house.

I'm not going to get into a debate with you on Mac vs. Windows because Mac is just better, period.
Speedy, do they not make the cute little colorful iBooks anymore?

Too many games for Windows. Why go through and have to pick one of 50,000 games when you can just go get a Mac and have only 5 games for it. Then, no confusion.

I also love how easy it is to upgrade a Mac. When you need an upgrade, you pick it up, throw it in the trash and spend $3,000 for a new one. :yay:

I had a Mac and hated it. They're good for video editing with the $800 software, that's just about it.

Maybe you've never been to an Apple store to see their game/software collection.

If I was going to write a virus, why do one that will only effect about 5-10% of all computer users. If I write it for Windows I'll hit closer to 90% of all systems out there. Hackers want notoriety and they won't get it by exposing holes or writing viruses for a OS without a significant market share.

Thank you. Very good point!

I'd find it kind of hard to play most PC games (esp. FPS) with only 1 button. Do MACS support mouses (or is it mice) with more than 1 button?

BTW another NOOB question about MACS.....do MACS have their own Blue Screen of Death....or is it a different color? :nerd:
