Our rep. seems to be following the Steny play book. He is unsure about raising taxes on our gas. In case your wondering what we pay now in gas related taxes. This will also trickle down to our good and services. Do these guys have any common sense?

No need to raise gas taxes. We don't need new roads and we don't have potholes. The TJ bridge will last for the rest of my life. I'm sure the Navy doesn't care if roads are adequate to service Pax River and all of the commuters should live within walking distance of the base. The present roads will take care of bicycle traffic. So Hell NO, don't raise my gas taxes!:cds:

You do know, Creekman, that three was a ton of money (+700 million) to do just that, until Martin "What Deficit?" O'Malley raided it to balance the budget? And that his predecessor did it too? There was 2 billion or so that didnt get spent on transportation. Thats why they need to raise the tax. Not becuase the current tax isnt enough to maintain the roads and bridges, but becuase they cant stop spending what they dont have on crap like Casa De Maryland.

Lol....I don't have a dog in the Casa De whatever hunt. Maybe you do. So if money hadn't been taken from transportation what would you have cut out of the budget to take the place of the 700 million? And how much of that was for Casa? How much did Ehrlich give Casa? Why don't you run for office instead of complaining and doing nothing?

Again, I'm opposed to raising the gas tax and I won" be pissing and moaning all around town the next time I see a pot hole or the bridge is backed up!

We need to start a campaign now!

We working class people need to speak up soon! We need to let them know that we are currently struggling and tightening our budgets. We have families failing all over Maryland. To increase the burden so much on working class families will cause more to be forced from their homes than is currently occurring!

We are tightening our belts to deal with the increased costs we are forced to bear. How come there is no word from the State that they are cutting spending? How come it only seems like they are increasing spending and coming after us to pay for it? How many of us will have to go Bankrupt until we are forced out of the state because we can't even afford to get to work from our homes we have to commute so far from in order to get to a job from someplace we can afford to live?

"I am unsure about raising gas taxes" = "You guys are going to have to pay me off in some way to go along with raising the gas tax"

there statement. taxes havn't been raised in years, But what about the consumption rate, must be millions of gallons more and steadly climbing, so what has happened to that, don't that account for increase.
and not only that what the heck happened to gas last nite 8 cents overnite.
If they want to help the economy they need to get this under control, I'am a small business owner we run 4 trucks a day to service our customers.
Right now it's costing me $100.00 more a week than it did 3 weeks ago.
I expect it to keep going up since the word is out from speculators

Actually, the consumption of refined fuels in this country peaked some years ago and is part of the reason why/how the US became a net exporter of gasoline in 2008 and remains one today. Many states now find themselves in the position of trying to replace 'missinge' expected revenue from fuel taxes.

But that's beside the point here; MD has a very serious spending problem and that will only get worse if all that happens is raising more revenue to keep 'feeding the machine'.

I'm with ya 100%.

If and when the MD govt manages to get spending back under control in other areas and replenish the highway funds, that is the time to talk about fixing more potholes.:buddies:

Not sure how much Casa got, I used them as an easy example, subsidizing organizations that publicly support folks who break the law, seems a no brainer that tax dollars should not go to them. Other stuff like green energy subsidy programs, that sort of thing. If you let them get away with this now, then you are giving them permission to do it every time. Tax you in the name of one thing, then spending it on other stuff.

My point is that this falls under the same heading as "All politicians lie, so electing lying politicians is okay". We have to stop accepting that sort of thing.

And the corollary theme that, astoundingly, seems to have a lot of support: Spending always increases and any reductions or cuts in current spending levels are always 'bad'.

the governors of maryland, have raided the transportation fund for the last decade to the tune of almost 2 BILLION dollars. YOUR gas tax dollars that had already been collected. Now, Omalley, wants YOU to replace that 2 BILLION that they have used, with no consequence, for their pet projects. On top of the gas tax, he has raise the liquor tax and AGAIN wants to raise the sales tax. He has also proposed that apps and ringtones u buy for your phone, get taxed at 6%. So while you are waiting for omalley to fix that bridge, chances are, he spent that money in his last term as governor. where does it stop? next he will have you report your vehicle milage on you state tax return, and tax you for each mile you drive.

New taxes

I just want you to know that I am against any tax increase, that comes before the State shows it is cutting its spending. The working class Maryland citizen is hard against it now financially. Especially with the constant pressure on Gasoline making it the second largest expense in working households. This is I believe what has caused most of the financial stress causing the downfall of the ability of families to pay for their homes and adding to the foreclosure mess. I am extremely dissatisfied with our representation. They recently enacted many proposals to take more money into state coffers but have done nothing to reign in spending. I repectfully request that any tax increases be preceded by budget cutting which entails decreased spending of that government.

If you look at the recent history and promises this legislature has made, as I am looking at them. You will see a series of missteps in revenue producing(including gambling issues) which appear as merely manipulating the populace. And now we are to receive onerous increases in what we are expected to pay at all levels of government as many of the States former obligations are being shifted onto the county with out resources to cover them.

Oregon wants to use GPS to track mileage and tax accordingly ...... seems socialists want it both ways, 50 MPG Cars and lots of gas tax money ...... the FED never should have mandated Fuel Economy ....

You know that Oregon thing was a feew years back, right? Final report was doe in 2007, heres a clip from the "Final Thoughts" section.......bolded is the scary part.......

Despite our care in designing for public acceptance, Oregon is unlikely to implement the Oregon Mileage Fee Concept alone. Refining the necessary technology requires investment of multiple millions of dollars. Embedding on-vehicle technology into new passenger vehicles requires the acceptance and cooperation of the world’s politically influential automobile manufacturers. Applying collection equipment at service stations requires the acceptance and cooperation of the also influential gasoline distribution
industry. In order to accomplish these things, Oregon must obtain the support of the federal government, join a consortium of states or work in partnership with a very large state with huge market influence such as California.

If you live in Maryland you're funding an organization that teaches illegal immigrants how to work the Maryland social services system.

We could save millions just by not feeding, housing, medicating or educating people who are here illegally. If we required E-Verify their jobs would dry up and we could wave goodbye to the criminals.

There is so much waste in State government and Federal government. I drive past a station every day.. One day it was 3.34,then 3.37, then 3.40, now it is 3.47.... What is the reason for the increase.. Lets see, could it be spring is coming? Or Iran has threatened to do something Again? If a leaf falls off a tree that is a reason for prices to go up and I mean fast. Now, the our great State government wants to add what 21 cents per gallon on (7 cents a year to soften the blow).. Right now? Is he fricken crazy.. Yes, we need to fix the roads and bridges but use some of the money you already have to fix roads (instead of wasting money on shrubs and bushes for the big road in Montgomery County) Most of us in this state are bleeding and it is going to get to a point where we will not be able to stop the bleeding. This state is becoming to costly to live in. I have lived here my entire life and it is a sad day when I hear people say they are going to leave because they cannot afford to live here with all the cost and the stupid regulations. Somebody better wake up. We need to clean house in the State and in the country and get rid of the career fellows and put some real people in charge that will really look out for ALL OF US....
