Boxer Puppies

Buster eats very, very fast. He will barf water too. I have to watch him carefully. I put a large bone in his food bowl that he has to eat around and that slows him down.

That's a good idea, catt! We feed both dogs twice a day, same with the cat. They are let out in the morning for about 20 minutes, fed, let outside again, then brought back in. Same schedule in the evenings.

Boxers have a lot of digestive issues.

Boxers are subject to gastric torsion (Bloat) which can kill them. You have to be very careful with watering, feeding and exercising. Do you feed him twice a day? They really should exercise hard prior to and after feeding and shouldn't have a lot of water after eating dry food.

Did he come from health tested parents (if you got him as a pup). Has he ever been tested for heart problems?

Koda is free fed so he basically eats when he wants...which is usually in the evening because he is crated while we are at work. We are in the process of putting up a fence (should be finished today) so I plan on exercising him nightly. He really has not gotten too much exercise lately...we had a baby and just bought a house. We are putting the fence up for the pups...and since Koda LOVES to retrive...I am going to make it a nightly thing for him.

We are also going to try to start leaving him out of the crate and put him on a feeding schedule. He makes such a mess when he eats...we are hoping to feed him on the back porch twice a day. The thing is that he eats REALLY slow. It is just when drinking water that he gulps it down. Someone told me to put ice in it to slow him down and that helped with their boxer. I also heard to NOT raise a boxers food bowls...that this helps to avoid bloat.

We did get Koda as a puppy and we were told the mom and dad had all the health test, but we never saw anything. Although I researched the breed before buying, we really never thought about the health tests. He does have some bone deformities in his leg and was attacked by another dog causing and ACL issue. He has had the surgery and it is doing great!!!

That is true and applies to all dogs that are prone to bloat (deep chested).

Does he get water during the day? He could just be drinking too much. I'd try to get him off of free feeding and on a schedule.

I'd love to see pictures! We have 3 boxers.

Thanks for the advise!

Here are some pictures. Notice the tongue. We think he had a seizure during his ACL surgery. Ever since then his whole mouth has sagged on that side. We love it though...it shows his personality

Oh my...poor thing. That's awful. Wonder if they gave him Ace before the surgery..a big :nono: for Boxers.

He looks just like our Buster.

We did tell the vet NO ACE when we dropped him off and I checked his charges and did not notice a charge for it, but it is always possible. He was so high when he got home we slept beside his crate all night...my husband was a mess.

Also...how do you get the pictures in thumbnail format?

You have a beautiful group there. And Koda does look like Buster. I love the smoochy faces. We would have more boxers, but my son wanted a beagle. I told my husband that we will always have at least one boxer! I love them!
