Boycott Absolute

Sonsie

The mighty Al-Sonsie!
Maybe this will be Absolut's next ad.

ON EDIT: Just tripped across this. Absolut is sorry and apologizes.

The Absolut vodka company apologized Saturday for an ad campaign depicting the southwestern U.S. as part of Mexico amid angry calls for a boycott by U.S. consumers.

The campaign, which promotes ideal scenarios under the slogan "In an Absolut World," showed a 1830s-era map when Mexico included California, Texas and other southwestern states. Mexico still resents losing that territory in the 1848 Mexican-American War and the fight for Texas independence.

But the ads, which ran only in Mexico and have since ended, came as the United States builds up its border security amid an emotional debate over illegal immigration from their southern neighbor.

...we be better served by better public policies that address illegal immigration than to be all upset with an advertisement that is simply alluding to what our policies are accomplishing?

In short, who is the greater problem, a booze company or our elected leaders the last 20 years?

Si! :buddies:

But if you are going drink Vodka, don't know why anyone would........... Why drink Absolut?

There are alot of products and companies that I'd rather not use if had the choice.

Jiffy Lube
Starbucks
Leatherman
Best Buy ect...

I'll just add Absolut to that list, it has nothing to do with not seeeing who the real problem is..... I think most here already know that and call for changes to be made at that level already.

...with me. I think it reasonable to ALSO object to their marketing. I'm just pointing out that they are a mere business, tying to sell a product to as many people as possible which is what our politicians tend to focus on a bit too much. W and Clinton and both chambers of congress have done far more to make that add come true than the add it self.

I'm all for objecting when anyone goes too far.

do you or do you not find the poster offensive and or short sighted on Absolutes part ..... if you want to advertise your booze do you have to use a contentious political message ...... with the Reconquesta movement, and some saying the Mexican't s are going to re assimilate SW US via illegal immigration ..... by just burying the locals in Mexican'ts ....

:eyebrow:

and hey if it is just a silly map, not a political statement .... how about a map of world in the 1890's showing how many colonies Britain had @ the height on its Power ....

...it instantly offensive and view it as anti US propaganda.

I do not, however, view it as offensively as the complete lack of control we exert over our own borders and immigration policies.

I also don't view it as offensively as I have grown to view our occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan.

No Use for Donk Twits
Vox ftw!

For its part, the open-borders Associated Press attempted to minimize the widespread opposition to the Absolut ad from Americans and persisted in labeling reconquista views “fringe.” I direct them to the speech given two weeks ago in San Bernardino by Hillary Clinton campaign co-chair Dolores Huerta, who railed, “We didn’t cross the border, the border crossed us” and gloated that immigration enforcement is moot because the reconquista is won. “It’s really too late,” Huerta said. “If 47 million (Latinos) have one baby each . . . it’s already won.”

Maybe Absolut should hire Huerta as its next spokesperson.

Yeah well border control policies have sucked for along time ...... you would not want me in charge of that

....... I'd make the Stasi look like Barney Fife, when it came to finding and deporting Illegals ........ Mexican't or other wise .... TIPS lines, rewards for turning in Illegals ... and Business hiring Illegals .... Profiling Business that hire Illegals ....

I'd declared war on Mexico for fostering this invasion ...... guard towers and Snipers on the Border .....

So you now view our Presence in Afghanistan and Iraq as an Occupation ....

is that because we have not left yet ? and will not be in the foreseeable future .

.. do you consider our presence in Germany, Japan, and Korea as Occupation ?

...control is a multi faceted thing, as you've illustrated. Any and all human behavior should be approached from the standpoint of motivation. There is little or no need for much in the way of border control in many of the small border towns; there is families and daily commerce to consider. Strangers bring notice and can be given attention as needed either by state or federal agencies.

Major roads, sure, inspect and monitor. Large towns and cities, same thing.

Open country patrolling should be part of standard military AIT; constant rotation in and out keeps it from being a nightmare assignment, precludes corruption as no one is there long enough to become corrupted and the training would, obviously, be beneficial to a soldier.

Moving on to business; we long since need a national ID card and immigration officers conducting routine background checks and follow up on folks to see if the rules are being followed. A national foreign worker permit relives business of being forced into government function and streamlines the process and gets rid of a huge amount of pressure on illegal immigration itself.

Then, we're just looking at compliance; is a business making sure people have proper ID and worker permits? Are smuggling hot spots being patrolled enough? Are border inspection stations effective and efficient?

Human motivation is a simple thing; just work with it.

Also, I'd legalize drugs and watch all the violence and corruption dry up and with it much of the organized crime that is a threat in any number of areas.
Let cops focus on dealing with illegal weapons, not bales of grass and packages of powders.

...you can ONLY do drugs at home. Have escalating public use fines. From there, treat it like alcohol; no driving, no public intoxication. Society as a whole should not have to suffer the corruption, hypocrisy and violence over what some moron(s) decide(s) to ingest.
