Brake Rotors

My rotors are coming due to be replaced, have the factory originals in there now.

Question: If you were to replace your rotors and wanted maximum braking power (think trailer with no brakes), would you replace them with OEM (solid), drilled (uniform round holes), or slotted ? I know the slotted are designed to dissipate heat and help prevent fade, but would they have more braking power than the OEM which has more surface area ?

if you are trailoring anything the last thing you want is solid, the heat warps em too fast...you could get away with either drilled or slotted, or both.
Also a good choice would be to go with ceramic pads, whuch would disipate heat as well :yay:

Anytime brakes run cooler you will have more braking power.

What you have to ask yourself is how much longer will your truck last or how much longer are you going to keep it.

Another words...If your OEM rotors lasted you 4 years and your truck has a gazillion miles on it. Don't waist the extra money!

I was leaning toward the slotted. Haven't done any serious research yet.

Thanx. :buddies:

:lmao: Got it...

It's a 2000 GMC with 70K, original rotors. With the cost of new trucks and me looking to retire soon, I think I'll have this for a while yet. I tow a 12x8 box trailer with my GoldWing in it, about 2500 lbs. I have felt some fade in stop-go traffic, and would feel a little more secure with less fade.

Drilled and slotted are for track use.

... and they look cool

AND alot of people buy them just because they look cool. If you're not going to upgrade the calipers I don't think they're worth the money. BUT, if you decide to buy that fancy stuff don't expect to ride down to the local parts store to buy replacement pads when you need them. Seems like more of a PIA in my opinion.

I AM GUMBY DAMMIT
I replaced the rotors on my Tundra with NAPA TruStop rotors and ceramic pads at 30K miles. I traded the truck in with 145K and the brakes passed MD inspection. The rotors were very reasonable if I remember correctly.

You do make it sound that way... food for thought. Thanx.

I've gone with EBC on both my trucks.. the dimpled (not drilled through) rotors and the Green Stuff pads. if you do a little searching on the internet you can find them for the same price or less than OEM.

EBC seems to have done their homework as far as the efficiency of dimpled, drilled and slotted brake rotors.. Slotted rotors seem to "shave" the pads more than cool them, and drilled through rotors lost some of their strength and actually warped worse than solid rotors etc .. read their studies on their website, it made sense to me, enough for me to buy their products.

I just recall working on a Mustang one time years ago that had some huge Brembo brakes on it. Had to wait a week for the guy that owned it to get his mail order replacement pads for it. He was travelling and had to lay over in a motel room until they showed up.

That made me a non-believer real quick.

I didn't respond to this right away, 'cause I wasn't sure if it was really BG, or ItsBob using your account again!
