Have to go into D.C. all this week and was going to use the Metro. Is parking a problem at these stations? Any parking advantage in going to Suitland instead of the end station for parking?

I havent used Suitland Metro station in a while...but last time they had a lot of spaces blocked off due to all the construction of the new Census Bureau bldg and the new walkway to the Metro from the bldg. Made available spaces pretty few unless you have a SmarTrip card and can park in the garage.

Get there early, if not you will have a problem and be charged for it.
You need a FareCard - it costs money, like $20 for the plastic.
You can also use it on the trains.
You need it to get out of the lots, whether you park or not.
Parking at Branch Ave is a known problem, they are building additional lots but they are no where close to being ready.

Found that out the hard way... Parked, went into DC for the day, came back out..... no frikkin' way to get out. Finally found a real person at one gate who let me pay the fair in cash.....

I'd go into DC alot more often if I could take the Metro without the hassle of the FareCard. I don't understand why you cannot use a credit or debit card to pay for occasional parking.

its not that big a deal ..... the machines right in the station that sell the card for 10 - 20 bucks .... you use it for Fare and Parking and it can be recharged, even @ home from the Internet

Metro took out the toll booths because the contracted personal were skimming the proceeds .... :eyebrow: and went to a everyone pays all the time, it used to be if you got out before 1530 or after 1930 you were good to go ...........

:lmao: The first time (which was also my last time....) using the Branch station, I didn't know about all that, never even thought to look for a ticket machine. BUT, now that I know that, I may try it again....

Thanx!:buddies:

Good info, I'm going to have to know all these things to go see the Nationals play this year.
Ive lived here all my life (Hiilcrest/St.Mary's) and I have riden Metro maybe 4 times to go to Verizon Center, use to go to the Huntington station in Va and ride from there, before Branch Ave opened its been about 3 years since I last rode, Branch Ave was open then but still elected to go to Va. to ride, felt it was a safer station and safer stops along the way.
Branch Ave Metro is a direct route to the Nationals staduim, would like to hear comments from riders of Branch Ave who have taken that route in rush hour and non rush hour times as to what its like, some of the stops are in not to nice of a area. JMO (Barry Farms)
Heck 3 of the stops Suit/Naylor and Southern Ave are within walking distance of my old house.
One more question, days the Nationals play, I havent seen the size of the parking lot at Branch, but do you all think it can handle the parking say on a Sat/Sun for Nationals game, there should be alot of people using that station to go to the games, since there is no parking around the staduim and its a direct route.

The kids are planning to go up to DC on Thursday, do some sight seeing, I had suggested they park at Suitland, it seems this would cost them quite a bit??
