Breaking: Abortion Rights Overturned

Who here has read "Freakonomics"?

I think people who are hard core anti-abortion are tunnel visioned and not looking at the big picture. They're thinking about that tiny infant, not the drain on society predator that baby will grow up to be, and then pop out 4 or 5 more just like him/her. Which is why our society is crumbling and crime/poverty is so rampant - not enough abortions.

The amusing part is that Democrats find themselves in yet another episode of cognitive dissonance. "Abortion is racist eugenics" vs. "Women should be able to kill their children." I think it was Al Sharpton who said, "Who says those kids will grow up to be criminals? Maybe they'll grow up to be like me?" To which most of us would respond, "God help us."
My immediate thought to this was great in 15-20 years we will have more criminals and gang bangers.

If it was an aide (and I'm sure it will be pinned on one) whose to say they have a law license,
I was under the impression that most clerks had law degrees at least....and that clerking for a high(er) court was considered a valuable stepping stone experience before moving on to a law firm or the like. As for having a license....since that's a state-by-state thing anyway, they may not have one yet.

I assumed they would have support staff other than law clerks. Perhaps that's not the case. Surely having one of these positions to begin with (like being a whitehouse intern) means you come from a connected family and/or are highly motivated and political. They will probably use it as a launchpad to start a political career.

Pelosi, Schumer Accuse Conservative Justices of Lying in Scathing Reaction to SCOTUS Leak

“Several of these conservative Justices, who are in no way accountable to the American people, have lied to the U.S. Senate, ripped up the Constitution and defiled both precedent and the Supreme Court’s reputation – all at the expense of tens of millions of women who could soon be stripped of their bodily autonomy and the constitutional rights they’ve relied on for half a century.

“The party of Lincoln and Eisenhower has now completely devolved into the party of Trump,” Schumer and Pelosi add. “Every Republican Senator who supported Senator McConnell and voted for Trump Justices pretending that this day would never come will now have to explain themselves to the American people.”

Democratic governors were equally “horrified” by the news.

"I am horrified by the apparent draft Supreme Court opinion leaked this evening that would overturn the right to abortion guaranteed by Roe v. Wade," Gov. Kathy Hochul, D-N.Y., said in a statement. "For the sake of women across the country, this should not be the Supreme Court's final opinion when it comes to abortion rights."

If abortion gets returned to the states what are these dem govs worried about. They can still allow them, their issue must be they are paying for them & not the fed.

Well it isn't. But it would stop the harvesting of organs from a fetus before they were of use to the butchers .
A bit like picking a fruit before it is ripe. The harvesters want these organs to be fully developed before they kill the baby and take their organs for use by "Doctors"
You keep saying this,
Who is harvesting these organs?

California to Build the Wall — a ‘Firewall’ to Protect Abortion

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) vowed Monday evening to build a “firewall” around California in the form of a state constitutional amendment guaranteeing abortion as a right, after a draft Supreme Court decision reversing Roe v. Wade (1973) leaked.

The decision, in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, concerns a Mississippi law passed in 2018 that bans all abortions abortions after the first 15 weeks into pregnancy. The case was heard by the Court last fall.

Ya gotta give the left credit for being able to throw a tantrum even when they still get what they want! :killingme

I think it's great that California wants to protect abortion.
IMO Californians should either be sterilized or aborted to begin with.

Just kiddin' ------------------------Maybe.

The Mississippi law at issue says that up to 15 weeks gestation there are no restrictions on getting an abortion and then afterwards if there should be a danger to the mother or severe abnormality of the fetus an abortion can still be done. So how can this be viewed as a ban on abortions?
You can bet your last dollar, it will be portrayed PRECISELY as a ban on abortions.

What astonishes me, is this - most modern nations currently have much more restrictive laws on abortion.

Almost every nation that permits abortion places some restriction on the column "On request" (that is, NOT rape, life of mother, health of mother, economics or fetal impairment). There are VERY FEW as permissive as the United States. The MOST permissive that restrict "on request" do limit it as much as 22 weeks - but the typical one is 12 weeks.

If it was a clerk for one of the justices - I'd really like to find out if they were DIRECTED to do it.
