Bust Em... or let them speed?

I'm a self admitted lead foot, but if you don't do something about 70-80 through a residential area it's just a matter of time before a kid gets creamed.

You could start off with posting your own signs saying "please slow down for our children" or some crap like that. If that doesn't work call in the law.

Bust 'em! This is a safety issue for your neighbors, and at 50-70mph it becomes very serious when the speed limit is 30mph. The people who do this are arrogant and deserve a speeding ticket. They are inconsiderate of their fellow drivers sitting in traffic, and of you and your neighborhood. If they're going to short-cut traffic, they should at least be considerate enough to drive the speed limit. Bust 'em!

I lived here about 11 years ago, just recently moved back to the area.
At that time I was living over in St. Mary's, but now living over in Solomons.
The traffic was just as bad then as it is now. At the time my husband was in the navy, it would take him 1 hour to get home, and we only lived 5 mins. away from the base. I will agree that they do need more police out there, especially over the bridge. As far as why everyone slows down on the bridge,
don't know why....fear of heights....maybe...they shouldn't be on the bridge at all...or it could be....just I don't like going across bridges..cause they move....
I say to them... grow up... I've been across ones longer and taller then this one.

bty....if you think the traffic is bad down here.....try going up to DC, Baltimore, or Harrisburg,PA....try dealing with 18 wheelers instead of cars all morning long...and I don't mean just one or two...I mean wall to wall

It is a public road, and therefore, many durhards will use it. Not sure what could be done in this case. When I worked in D.C., I used to see it all the time. :ohwell:

I know several people who get the jitters when they drive over it. Maybe that's the reason. I've never had a problem with the bridge myself.
If ya ever notice, it's worse on nice sunny clear days?? People get on the top of the bridge and slow down to look around at all the pretty sail boats .... I have to drive across the bridge EVERY day, and I try to get out of work before 4, which means I hit the bridge at 4:30 not TOO bad then, but anytime after wow.. have been stuck as far south as Century 21 waiting for bridge traffic

Patuxant Beach Rd. South? Might concider getting to gether with the other residents along the road and start a HOA or other "Private Residence" group. Then try to have the County give your group exclusive rights to the road and make the road "Resident Only". Possibly put in a gate at each entrance.

Another option is to get together with the family that ownes/operates the school busses about halfway down Patuxant Beach Rd. South. Have them "drop off kids" every 10 feet during rush. After a couple days of that, people will think twice about bypassing the traffic on Rt 4.

It is unreal to me how people can be this way......S. Pax. Beach is a COUNTY road, meaning (since you are so pathetically uninformed) that all County taxpayers support that road, and therefore, are allowed access to it.

I totally agree that the traffic coming thgrough there must be better regulated, but you can't stop someone from breaking the law by breaking it yourself. Replies like this cause the original (good) point to loose steam.

11 years ago? You must be thinking of some other place.

I think not.....base traffic was just as bad then as it is now...there's just a hell of alot more lights then there used to be and not as many lanes as there is now....
Another thing that get's me is...why doesn't anyone use their signals when they are going to change lanes......I hate being almost clipped every time I over in St. Mary's....again where are the cops at when you need them....I have been told by some ppl at work....what the hell are you doing over on our side anyway....Hell I though this was a free country....but they usually shut up when I tell them that i'm visiting my relatives down in the boonies.....

Are you a speed reader? You obviously didn't take the time to comprehend what I wrote.
Is it possible what I wrote can happen(sans the school bus part)? Yes. Is it likely? Probably not but it won't hurt to try.
As for the school bus part, do you really think a person in their right mind would do such a thing? In case you still have comprehension problems; It was a joke. OK?

Had this problem once. Developed a game called "Bowling for Speeders". Get a bright colored playball from Wall/K mart and when somebody comes screaming down your road, just roll the ball down your drive into the street. Most folks assume there will be a child following a ball and slam on their brakes. If they get pizzed just say "Sorry,it got away from me."

I'd try the following in this order- if one doesn't work, move to the next:

1) Talk to the county police
2) Petition the county for speed bumps or rumble strips
3) Lowes- 4 bags of quick-crete
