Busted tail light.

So almost a month ago I was pulled over and given a ticket because my tail light was busted. It was one of those tickets where you have to fix the item then have a mechanic certify that you indeed fixed it and send the ticket back in within 30 days or your registration will be suspended.
Well I got the tail light fix last week, right as it started snowing and I have been snowed in ever since. I was hoping I would be able to get out to the gas station and get this handled and send my documentation to the judge but I live in CRE on a backroad so I've been trapped, and now it's snowing again.
So very frustrated. What should I do?

If you got the tail light fixed last week.... Calvert County Government has been closed most of that time.... maybe that will help.... maybe you can tell them you were snowed in the same as they were.....

Maybe your paperwork didn't move to the suspension pile yet.... :coffee:

They'll suspend your license, you'll show up to the office, show your paperwork and they'll unsuspend it. Meh.

The day after you get a fix-it busted light ticket, you should go to Autozone, spend $3 and ask the nice short bald guy to replace it for you.

If you wait till day 29 and then it snows you're screwed and we'll point and laugh at you.

Somdfunguy is right on. The Court will say you had plenty of time. No excuse. It will be hard for them to believe you couldn't get out an have it taken care of within the entire time they provided you to get it done. Just for the heck of it, tell the Judge. Be prepared for him to laugh! I suspect you will see a Judge sooner or later.

You can also get the fix verified by any local police officer.
Once you are able to get back on the road you can either stop by your local sheriff's office and have an officer verify the fix, or if you see an officer in a parking lot ask nicely if they will verify your fix.

Didn't wait til day 29. Waited til day 11 or so till I got a paycheck then ordered the taillight from Amazon with two day delivery. The UPS man put the box next to the mailboxes and living in the ranch club naturally it was stolen. A few days later good samaritan finds the opened box with contents still inside on the side of the road and brings it to me. This was last friday. Still plenty of time to get the mechanic to sign my document but its been snowing and the plows don't come. and now it's snowing some more.

In St. Mary's all you have to do is drive your vehicle up to the police department and show them that you fixed it.

This.

We're not talking about a DUI or reckless endangerment. I've been in the same situation, all I had to do was show the admin at the county courthouse my paperwork, she entered the information, collected the fine and I went on my way.

:killingme Why wouldn't you go to ANY parts place or Walmart and buy it? How much did 2 day delivery cost?

That's all I have to do here in Calvert as well but I haven't been able to drive anywhere because I'm snowed in.

I went to the autozone in PF and they had to order it and it was going to cost $160. Amazon I got it for $40. Normally 2 day delivery is free for me because I have Amazon Prime but this was a 3rd party vendor. The shipping was 15$ but after UPS set my package by the side of the road to be stolen the vendor kindly refunded my shipping costs.

Call 911, but make sure it's a good story (trespasser, assualt ect...).
While the police officer is there, ask him to verify the fix on your vehicle.

So it was the lens assembly and not a burnt out bulb.
How long did you know about it before you got the ticket?

The red plastic covering of the light bulb. It had a hole in it. I didn't realize it was unacceptable until the cop told me to get it fixed.

FYI - in the future to avoid a fix-it ticket;
If you have the pieces, you can glue the lens back together. They also make translucent red plastic tape that can tide you over till you can replace the lens.
