Looked up the app; quick question - Do you run the 3 days in a row then take 4 days off? or do you do one day on, one day off, etc?

Couch to 5k

Be sure to space out these three days throughout the week to give yourself a chance to rest and recover between efforts. And don't worry about how fast you're going. Running faster can wait until your bones are stronger and your body is fitter. For now focus on gradually increasing the time or distance you run.

I'm pretty sure you're supposed to take a day off in between. So, run MWF, eat ice cream TThSaSu.

personally, I go every other day. So its not exactly "real" weeks but it gives me a good day of rest, without too many days of rest to make me lazy :lmao:

So, how far are you running now? I ran my first 10k in October, but then switched over to swimming. I ran on Christmas Day with my sister, just 4 miles and it about killed me, which was a real bummer that I'd lost so much running strength in two months (even though I was still exercising rigorously) When the weather starts to warm a bit I want to resume a little running, but I think I'll have to start at square one again. Maybe I'll check out the app.

About 2 miles with a small amount of walking. On the treadmill I skip a lot of the "rest" walk..my next run is the big 20 min run..no rest. I'm confident I can do it! Which is amazing because 20 min of nonstop running would have been near impossible just 5 weeks or so ago. I never realized how much harder outside running is than the 5readmill..I feel like I am cheating when I run inside lol

If you put the incline at 1.5-2 it makes it more like running outside.

Yeah I saw that online and put it to 1% ..still..I didn't realize how major the difference actually is. I'm glad I've been doing my runs outside..the last 2 runs have been on the treadmill but all of the previous have been outside..I think that's better.

What app do you use?

Its a droid app by rundouble called c25k..great app..my friend with an iphone has one similar..but is very basic..the run double version ks freethe first 3 or 4 weeks..then you "upgrade" for 1.60 to get the last weeks. I love it! App has great functionality (let's u play pandora or external music player OR music stored on your phone, lets you post to facebook, easily look up stats from past runs, etc) and works great.

Thanks. I am going to try this. I like the fact you can play your music with it. Now if only it had a thing on it that knew when you past out it would call 911 for you and had the gps location....lol! When i run it feels like ice is running through my chest. :/

thats why this app is good. I even have a touch of exercise induced asthma..and starting out very slow and slowly legthening the time spent running has made all the difference to me..Before I would just go run, tucker out after a few min and then get discouraged. the app tells you exactly what to do and when, and gives you a purpose. the first three weeks are a breeze and really prepares you for the harder weeks after that. I started out feeling like my chest was caving in, now I can run easily for about a mile before I even start to feel out of breath at all, and I am legthening that amount every week.

I started for real today. :howdy: It wasn't too bad so we'll see how things progress. I love the app I'm using (It's by Bluefin Software and I have an iPhone) because it tracks distance, pace and calories burned (just based on weight and distance/pace so not 100% accurate but good info to have). And it even draws a little map for me.

hooray! I got a friend to start today too..like I told her..the first three weeks are a total breeze. JUST enough to see some gains and get used to doing it...then it gets a little tougher from there for a bit, but I repeated a whole week (4 or 5 I think, cant remember now) to feel more comfortable with it..no one is judging me, so I thought better be safe and repeat some runs, than try to move foward and get in over my head.

Yesterday I ran 22 min straight (with a 5 min warmup and 5 min cooldown in addition) and a little over two miles. nothing impressive for actual runners..but for me..its a total victory! I feel so accomplished..fighting for those minutes and being able to feel like I could probably run longer if I wanted to..its a great feeling.

Yeah, I am thinking I need a mask to keep the air moister..I learned the HARD way that when it is cold out to cover your ears. OUCH.

I am running so I can wear a pair of those teeny spandex running shorts they have at dicks  that, and I have always wanted to be able to do it, and look effortless.

and oh yeah..I don't have 6 more baby lbs to go..I am under pre baby weight :buddies:

I "graduated" c25k a bit ago, and now I run 5k in about 34-35 min :buddies: I am getting close to my goal of a 30 min 5k!

I've lost 20lbs, and am now 11 lbs under my prebaby weight..and today is her birthday  so its a nice present to me.

and according to the USPS tracking site..my brand spanking new spandex running shorts are sitting on my doorstep waiting for me when I get home

I cannot say it enough...I LOVE c25k:yahoo::yahoo::yahoo:

That's amazing!!! Great job! I'm still chugging along. I have a history of pushing myself too hard too fast and end up injuring myself so I've been repeating weeks. It'll take me longer to finish the program but I want it to be something I can stick with and improve on for the long haul.

:yay: I repeated several weeks myself (including week 4 where I thought I was going to quit because thats when the real running starts :killingme). I wasn't competing with anyone, and I wanted to be sure I could do it before moving on, im really glad I did.
