Cabling being buried down 235??

It could just be extra cable they are laying in case they decide they need to use it for something in the future.

They don't do that

If they installed RG-223, they'd wind up needing CAT-5
If they installed CAT-5, they'd wind up needing fiber

A business doesn't buy and install any material unless ther's a need for it.

Our DSL has been awful also. One day it's up, the next it's down. The Verizon Customer Service tech from India said it was our old DSL modem and we needed to purchase a new one for $49...

I bought a new Netgear modem, and it still wouldn't work. The Verizon India line told me they couldn't trouble shoot a netgear modem so I put the verizon one back on . Still didn't work! She did tell me that the reason my DSL was not working was because the DSL light was flashing. Thanks, I had kind of figured that out! AND that's not why it's not working, it just indicates there is a problem. This has been going on for about 3 months. Got the Verizon man out yesterday and of course it was working fine. Fingers crossed it has been working for 24 hours now, bet it doesn't last! I do have his cell phone number now so I can bypass India if it goes down again. GRRR!!!

Have you had the phone jack checked for possible problems? When we were having issues with Verizon DSL the culprit was a faulty phone jack. It's been smooth sailing since it was replaced *knock on wood against any further problems*

Our street is marked for new underground lines, and I'm assuming it's for FIOS.. Who can I call and find out what it is they are getting ready to do?

It would be great if we got SOMETHING back here, but I'm not holding my breath.

FYI, for infrastructure and especially for long haul cabling (except for underwater/seabed), 90+ percent of the cost is the labor, not the materials. If there is even the slightest chance that they will have future upgrade needs, or the possibility of leasing / selling the dark fiber, they will run significantly more than they need.

This is why my parents have fiber running through their property that was laid in '96 when the community was built, so that they could someday sell it to a service provider (which has not yet happened).

Bob, call Miss Utility or check their webpage for your street. It'll list who is doing the work and for whom their doing it for. :yay:

It appears the work is being done by MBC. Not Verizon.

If you keep going thru all the recent tickets it should show which type of cable is being buried. I have a call into a UG guy that lives in that area. If there's work being done there he'll know exactly what's being done. I'll update when I get the call back.

The area defined in that work ticket covers just a very small area.....maybe less than a quarter area distance. The lines being buried now go far beyond the area identified on the ticket. But I am probably reading it wrong.

Wolfe has a ticket in for every driveway, and every intersection they have to bore under to run the cable.. I'm sure Wolfe isn't going to be laying the cable, but more than likely just doing the digging.

Bob, every UG contractor I've ever dealt with buries the cable and does the digging. Otherwise Verizon or whomever would be paying 2 contractors to do the job.

And BG, there are a ton of open tickets for the area. If I wasn't on my phone I'd take the time to look thru them but my BB sucks today.

My reliable source says that the cable is being put in for government use. I also was told that Verizon is dumping a lot of their DSL service to Frontier in this area. Service with the will suck so badly that more people will be switching to MetroCast.

:bawl: We don't get MetroCast in our small neighborhood. :bawl:

We have expensive satellite tv :nomoney: and a backdoor way to access internet at home.

I'd rather have cable.

Talking directly with the contractor, the Fiber is going to Pax!!!
