California 7-Eleven workers take matters into their own hands as they stop brazen thief filling TRASH CAN with tobacco

  • The thief was clearing the shelves in the store and throwing cigarettes and tobacco items into a trash can
  • A stunned onlooker filmed the incident and encouraged the employees to wait until the police arrived
  • The workers eventually had enough and came together to restrain the suspect after hitting him with a large wooden stick

A pair of 7-Eleven workers in California were forced to take action into their own hands to stop a brazen burglar

In the video, a man who wore a dirty white t-shirt, jeans and a blue head covering, aggressively threw tobacco items into a trash can.

One of the workers is heard asking: 'Hey, why are you stealing everything?' before the thief threatened to 'pull my strap on your b**** ass'.

A customer tried to diffuse the situation and told the employees 'Just let him go. Ain't nothing you can do until the police come here.'

The customer also asked the workers if the store was insured and advised them to wait for the authorities.

The thief tried to get past an employee with his trash can of stolen goods while shouting, 'watch out boss.'

The pair got into an altercation as the worker grabbed the trash can and tried to restrain the suspect.

A second 7-Eleven staff member arrived and hit the thief with a large wooden stick as the suspect shouted in pain.

One worker continued to strike the thief while his colleague tackled and restrained him on the ground.

California relying on fossil fuels for critical power amid record heat wave: 'We need natural gas'

The state of California continues to rely heavily upon fossil fuel-fired power plants to ensure its residents and businesses have access to reliable electricity amid the ongoing heat wave.

According to data compiled by the California Independent System Operator, more than 40% of the state's total power grid supply derived from natural gas on Sunday, the largest share of any source. Renewable power, mainly solar energy, accounted for nearly 34%, but was only the largest energy source during peak sunlight hours between about 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m.

The state's grid is dependent on fossil fuel plants during the nighttime and morning hours when solar energy infrastructure isn't producing up to its capacity. That includes the period of highest electricity demand at around 7 p.m. when, on Sunday, natural gas generated 45% of the state's power compared to the 27% generated by renewables.

California is about to let race shockingly tip the scales of justice

California, that bellwether of the absurd, is about to do it again. The same legislature that rejected legislation to add human trafficking of a minor for purposes of a commercial sex act to the state’s list of "serious" felonies – until public outrage prompted reconsideration – has now seen the supermajority Democrats pass a bill out of the Assembly that mandates consideration of race in criminal sentencing.

The California State Assembly voted Assembly Bill 852 out of the chamber on a vote of 58 to 13 in May with all aye votes coming from Democrats. The measure is now pending before the Public Safety Committee in the Senate (critics call it the "Public Jeopardy Committee").

AB 852 grows out of Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom’s Reparations Task Force. The bill requires California’s criminal courts to consider the "disparate impact on historically disenfranchised and system-impacted populations" when issuing a sentence.

The state’s top cop Rob Bonta said Friday he is exploring "potential legal violations" by Chino Valley Unified School District in Southern California, alleging that its parent notification policy could "expose a student to parental abuse or increase their risk of self-harm or suicide." Chino’s board voted last month to reject state guidance that urges schools to keep students’ gender exploration hidden from their parents.

"This is a ploy to try to scare all the other boards across California from adopting the policy," Chino school board president Sonja Shaw told the Washington Free Beacon. "We have united all over California, and people from all over the nation are linking up to protect our kids and ensure parental rights. They did us a favor and just revealed more of their agenda and exposed their intentions."

Bonta’s investigation comes amid a spate of Democratic crackdowns on parents and school officials in the name of LGBT ideology. Gov. Gavin Newsom (D.) condemned Armenian parents in Glendale who protested against their school district’s decision to celebrate Pride month. He also threatened a $1.5 million fine against a different Southern California school board that rejected an LGBT-themed social studies curriculum—a move he lacked the legal grounds to make—which ultimately led the board to backtrack.

Closure of 3 Southern California power plants likely to be postponed, state energy officials decide

The California Energy Commission voted Wednesday to extend the life of three gas power plants along the state’s southern coast through 2026, postponing a shutoff deadline previously set for the end of this year. The vote would keep the decades-old facilities — Ormond Beach Generating Station, AES Alamitos and AES Huntington Beach — open so they can run during emergencies.

The state is at a greater risk of blackouts during major events when many Californians simultaneously crank up their air conditioning, such as a blistering heat wave.

“We need to move faster in incorporating renewable energy. We need to move faster at incorporating battery storage. We need to build out chargers faster,” commissioner Patricia Monahan said. “We’re working with all the energy institutions to do that, but we are not there yet.”

According to the San Francisco Examiner, the California Court of Appeal ruled “nothing in the state constitution prohibits cities from expanding voter eligibility in Board of Education elections to residents who are not citizens.” City voters passed Proposition N in 2016, which authorized foreign nationals who are parents or guardians to children in San Francisco’s school system to vote in local school board elections. While the measure was only temporary and set to expire in 2022, the San Francisco Board of Supervisors voted in October 2021 to make the change permanent.

Following last year’s historic recall election that resulted in San Francisco voters ousting three leftist school board members, the U.S. Justice Foundation and California Public Policy Foundation filed a lawsuit against the city, arguing the measure constituted a violation of the Constitution of California. The Superior Court of San Francisco ultimately agreed, ruling in July 2022 that the measure runs “contrary to the California constitution and state statutes and thus cannot stand.”

While California’s constitution states that “A United States citizen 18 years of age and resident in this State may vote,” the California Court of Appeal used legal gymnastics to justify its decision to uphold San Francisco’s non-citizen voting law. According to the Examiner, the court’s majority claimed the state constitution “‘affirmatively’ lays out who is eligible to vote, but does not expressly prohibit cities from expanding that right.”

Just now seeing this, that's crazy. Can't imagine it will go unchallenged. I still have family in California, most claim they are too old to want to move again in this lifetime. There's plenty of other states for the rational people to move to. I am thinking it might be easier to terraform the desert states into something more conducive to life than it would be to straighten out California politics.

California Democrats Want to Give Unemployment Benefits to Hollywood Strikers

Democrats in California are preparing to propose the idea of extending unemployment benefits to workers who are on strike. Obviously, this is being motivated mainly by the Hollywood actors and writers who are on strike.

Normally, benefits of this kind would only go to workers who have been let go by their employers.

This is nothing more than Democrats trying to throw a lifeline to people who they know are part of their core voters. It’s also worth noting that California’s unemployment insurance program is already broke.

FOX News reports:

Blue state Democrats propose handing out unemployment benefits to workers on strike
A group of California Democrats are expected to propose handing out unemployment benefits to striking workers.
Language expected to be released in the coming days or weeks to provide striking workers with benefits from California’s unemployment insurance program that is $18 billion in debt. The move comes amid historic strikes by both screenwriters and actors, forcing many movies and TV shows to halt production.
“It would allow individuals on strike who are not looking for work and were not let go through no fault of their own to claim unemployment insurance as if they were truly unemployed,” California Chamber of Commerce Policy Advocate Rob Moutrie, who opposes the legislation, told Fox News.
“Striking people are not the same as people who truly have been let go and have no idea where their next paycheck will come from,” Moutrie added. “But someone on strike knows where their job is.”

Citing misgendering, California library ejects forum on female sports

Organizers for the event, including Yolo County Mothers for Liberty Chairwoman Beth Bourne, had paid the $75 fee to reserve the room at Mary L. Stephens Davis Library, as they had done for several prior events of a similar nature at the same facility.

"The policies CIF has in place affect 320,000 girls in California, and yet very few parents and even athletes themselves understand where the policies originated and how they are expected to be enforced at the schools," said Bourne in a phone interview with The Center Square. "We want to bring transparency to high school sports and these policies, and how they impose risks and reduce girls' opportunities to excel in sports."

The event, held on a Sunday evening, featured speakers including Sophia Lorey, Outreach Director for the California Family Council, Kim Jones, Co-founder of the Independent Council on Women's Sports, Bourne, and local parent Allie Snyder. Organizers issued invitations to city council and school board members, county supervisors, coaches, athletic directors, neighborhood groups, community leaders, and civic groups to raise awareness for the event, which ultimately drew 75 individuals. Organizers say one-third of those who came opposed the event.

Shortly after the event began, Library Regional Manager for Yolo County, D. Scott Love, disbanded the event, citing misgendering by Lorey. Lorey, who was introducing the event, had used the term biological male to describe transgender male-to-female athletes, which Love considered to be misgendering.

Before the event, Love told organizers that misgendering would result in individuals being given one warning before being asked to leave, as doing so would be disrespectful and thus a violation of the library's code of conduct.

In a video on social media, Love can be heard saying to Lorey, "I asked you to leave earlier…you are misgendering...you were saying male in female sports…if she does not leave the building, I will shut this program down."

WTF is California’s proposed ‘Delete Act’?

The “Delete Act,” officially known as Senate Bill 362, was introduced in April by California State Senator Josh Becker (D-Menlo Park) and would give consumers a way to delete their personal information from every data broker in the state through a single verifiable consumer request. (The proposal comes less than a year after CPRA went into effect in January).

California isn’t the only state going after data brokers. Vermont, Texas and Oregon have also passed laws that create data-broker registries, with Vermont’s in effect since 2019, Texas’s taking effect in next month and Oregon’s starting in 2024. Federal regulatory agencies including the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and the Federal Trade Commission have also opened inquires into the industry. And in Congress, the Energy & Commerce Committee opened a bi-partisan investigation in April by sending letters to dozens of data brokers asking for information about how they collect and use consumer data.

For Digiday’s ongoing WTF Series about the complexities of the adtech world here’s an explainer about the “Delete Act,” what the bill entails, the privacy groups in favor of the proposal and why the ad industry wants to quash it.

LA Mayor: Illegal Aliens Aren’t Invited To Our Soon-To-Be Sanctuary City

Bass’ newfound opposition comes after Texas Governor Greg Abbott has spent months busing illegal immigrants to L.A.

“L.A. has not extended an invitation asking for people to come,” Bass told Fox L.A. anchor Marla Tellez. “This is a political act.”

At first, Bass was receptive to the newcomers and her Democratic colleagues rallied to prove Abbott wrong; L.A. would welcome these migrants, contrary to the Texas governor’s gambit, they argued.

“Los Angeles is not a city motivated by hate or fear and we absolutely will not be swayed or moved by petty politicians playing with human lives,” Bass said in June. “We are a city that seeks to treat all people with dignity and compassion and we will continue to work closely with non-profit organizations, including the L.A. Welcomes Collective, as well as with our County, State and Federal partners.”

LA Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez even said point blank that Abbott’s actions were the motivating factor behind fighting for sanctuary status and one that welcomes all people.

L.A. Mayor Bass: Lack of Consequences for Crime Isn’t Causing Retail Theft, ‘Things Like This Happen’ if There’s Profit

Bass said, “Well, you know what, things like this happen when there [are] profits to be made, and law enforcement put the task force together that I’m supportive of, and it has a number of different agencies, the city attorney, the district attorney, etc., all at the table. And I will tell you that, just the other day, they made eleven arrests. And so, these are crimes that are significants. They are felonies. They are not misdemeanors. And one of the things that we need to look at though, rest assured, they are not selling $10,000 purses in poor communities. They’re selling those purses online. They’re selling those stolen goods online. And so, I believe, when you have a crime like that, all of the actors are culpable and need to be dealt with. And so, we need to look at the online sales of stolen property, because that’s what it is.”

Host Elex Michaelson then asked, “There are a lot of viewers that feel like there aren’t enough consequences for crime in Los Angeles. What do you say to those people?”

Bass answered, “Well, they especially focus on that with these retail crime. I think there [are] a lot of misunderstandings about that. These are felonies, and in some cases…these are crimes that do have major consequences. The reforms that people object to have nothing, nothing to do with these crimes.”

Abbott Sends 10th Bus Full of Illegal Migrants to Los Angeles

Democrat Mayor Karen Bass got a rude awakening when a bus of 39 illegal migrants showed up on her doorstep.

The bus, which included 12 families and 21 children, was sent five days after Abbott sent the ninth shipment to the liberal city during Tropical Storm Hillary.

“LA has not extended an invitation asking for people to come. This is a political act,” Bass said, despite declaring Los Angeles a sanctuary city in June.

Bass called Abbott’s actions “evil,” accusing him of putting them in danger during a rain storm.

“This evening, Los Angeles received another bus from Texas. That means that while we were urging Angelenos to stay safe, the Governor of Texas was sending a bus with families and toddlers straight towards us KNOWING they’d have to drive right into an unprecedented storm," Bass tweeted. “Evil."

California sues school district that requires informing parents if children change gender identity

The State of California is suing a school district over its requirement that schools notify parents if their children change their preferred pronouns or gender identity.

The Chino Valley Unified School District requires that schools inform parents within three days of learning that a student seeks treatment consistent with a different gender than the one on their record, ABC News reported. The state contends that such a policy will potentially compromise the student wellbeing.

"For far too many transgender children and gender nonconforming youth, school serves as their only safe haven — a place away from home where they can find validation, safety, privacy. We have to protect that," Attorney General Rob Bonta said.

In every one of these types cases the parents are assumed to be the bad guys. It really seems that there should be a presumption of having the best interests of the children at heart.

California Pays Nonprofit Encouraging Kids To Identify As ‘Foxgender,’ Teaching Schools To Hide It

Among those programs is the development of a six-page form for students to submit school districts their pronouns and whether school staff needs to hide their use of those pronouns from their parents.

“It’s not always the case that caregivers are supportive of their child’s gender, their gender journey, in that case, if parents are not supportive or if the child is not out, that’s not necessarily someone who will be part of the gender support team,” said Director of Training Carla Pena at the group’s annual Gender Spectrum Family Conference last year.

Naomi Cruz, the group’s manager of family and educational programming, gave a presentation at the conference called “Intro to Neoidentities and Neopronouns.” The presentation said pronouns may “describe gender as a personal, aesthetic, synesthetic, or head-space oriented experience.” They include “noun genders” like “foxgender, moongender, and rockgender,” and even “emojiself pronouns,” such as “:)self.”

Cruz said “foxself” describes someone who identifies with “aspects of a fox, whether that’s their appearance, their personality, or how they’re viewed in society.”

gender-spectrum.png

“Our youth are becoming more and more independent regarding their self expression. Instead of trying to fit into premade boxes, they’re using their unique identities and forms of expression to create terminology to describe themselves,” the presentation said.

The presentation said that youth are on a “gender journey” and their genders will likely change over time, but that parents should “affirm” those identities — unless, of course, those identifies appropriate a “racial, ethnic, religious or disability group they are not part of.”
