callaway kennels

I did check out the pups at Callaway Kennels when I was half-heartedly searching. Neither the pups nor the facility was dirty.
This is what I question most... the original post is based on 'hearsay' and then offers no specifics. A reasonable person would expect that anyone selling 1k or more puppies wouldn't be able to ask those prices if their pups didn't portray "quality".... as for breeding dogs , regardless as to designer or purebred... I have always said... the pup is only worth what folks are willing to pay for them.

Okay, I gotta' ask....are all kennels sparkly clean 24 hours a day? Is there a cleaning crew around the clock? Over night? Is the kennel cleaned first thing in the morning? Did the person who told the OP it was dirty arrive early? Did s/he step in a pile o' crap, then not get the response s/he wanted?

I mean, we are talking about dogs here. They crap. If they can't get out to crap, they crap where they are.

Original post said "she said conditions were TERRIBLE" but offered nothing by way of explanation. It just doesn't add up. Right now Vraiblonde's direct observation supercedes generalized hearsay.

I'm gonna' have to agree, until TERRIBLE dirty is explained a little better. :neener:

I'm suspicious of the motive behind OP's post. "My friend said..." yet no explanation as to why we might care what their "friend" said. Or why they care, for that matter. If it was in a thread by someone looking for a breeder, that would be one thing; but as it stands it's just random and makes me think rival breeder trying to start stuff.

Exactly. I think I'll go get two new designer pups just for spite.

I did a Pop Inspection of the Interlude Kennels on St. Andrews Church Road, when I was looking in to Boarding our Dog. They had no clue that I was coming period. They did not hesitate bringing me on a tour of the whole place, including all the kennels the dogs stay in. I didn't see one poop, or one pee, or any dirty linen in the dog beds. Top notch in my book. All dogs had clean water, and food, along with their toys, and chewies. I know i went a little off the topic with this, but someone had asked what time of day the kennels are clean, and if they are sparkly clean 24/7.

That was me. My point was, unless there is someone there to clean up after the dogs 24/7, there could possibly be a mess if one arrives first thing in the morning, and that mess might be considerable, depending on the number of dogs in the kennel at any given time.

Dogs have accidents, especially if they are not in their normal environment, and not on their normal schedule, or they have nervous/submissive urination issues.

I could be wrong

Me too! Technically we did Interlude twice. A surprise the first time and then my husband came with me to drop the dogs off for a test run overnighter and they gave us another tour so he could see, too.

From their website:

AKC LITTER 1/2 ENGLISH , 1/2 AMERICAN Golden Retriever puppies , 2FEMALES $1400 EA. 4 MALES $1200 EA. --AVAILABLE NOW!!!! -SHOW QUALITY AKC,PURE BRED, Very CHAMPIONED PEDIGREES - BOTH LINES --TO PET HOMES ONLY **NO Breeders Please.

Is this really saying they are selling mixed breeds for $1400 and $1200...

In fact, their entire website leads one to believe they specialize in very expensive mutts.

I guess each pup is worth what someone is stupid enough to pay for.

I know that I am coming into this discussion a few days after the fact but I just want to insert a small bit into the conversation. I know this as I have an English Lab and NOT an American Lab.

When referring to English Retrievers Vs American Retrievers they are referring to Bloodlines. Not a specifically recognized sub breed. The AKC does not recognize any difference between English or American, the AKC judges dogs by a specific standard all dogs to compete in an AKC Sanctioned event must meet the AKC Breed Standard.

The bloodlines from England produce shorter, stockier, and heavier Retrievers than American bloodlines. American Labs tend to be taller dogs with a longer pointier muzzle and a narrower head (less boxy). My boy has a gorgeous blockhead and a very intelligent expression. I have been asked if he is an all black Rottweiler before by a few different people (to help explain his build better). Golden Retrievers follow a similar pattern as Labs, different bloodlines mean different appearances.

Callaway is producing AKC Registrable puppies with AKC registered Golden Retriever Sires and #####es just of very different bloodlines (good for the breed). These dogs are not mixes or even half breeds, they conform to the standard for the Breed from the AKC. Someone mentioned designer breeds, these are not "Designer" in any way just a selling point depending on your preference of a dogs appearance. Unfortunately, English means imported in some way maybe recently maybe 50 years ago but if the lines stayed true then they are still valuable and will cost more than an American Retriever. I did pay a little more for my boy than an American breed but I wanted the look and was willing to pay for it. I will not pay Callaway's (or any other Breeder's) inflated price for a restricted registration.

Please do NOT think that I am connected to Callaway, I am not endorsing them in any way, I am just speaking of the dogs and trying to help pass on a bit of friendly knowledge.

Nice post. It sounds like you know what you're talking about....even if you don't. I'm really not suggesting that you don't, and it would be great if you posted a pic of your pooch!

I don't think so. When she advertises I put up her avails, and she's had Labradoodles and Goldendoodles, but nothing that indicates Lab/Golden mix (what would you call that?).

Not that I want a large dog, but if I did I'd get one of her Doodles. They don't shed. She had some Cavadoodles awhile back that were adorable and turned into good looking adults.

I will oblige you with such when I get home, and am not in Verizon Hell in my current location. I have to email the pics to myself from the phone and I have no data connectivity with my phone currently.
