Wow, didn't know that. Not that I'm a smoker, but hubby is, he must have known that because he has one of those cup ashtray thingers in his truck.......blazinlow89 said:$100 on base and the standard litering fine.

It's a two point offense on your license:
And jail, fine, or both:
So if I empty an ashtray in your yard that's okay with you, right?Mrgaritavill said:Is a cigarette really considered "litter" though? They are biodegradable (after some time anyway).

wiki said:The cellulose acetate most cigarette filters are made from is a biodegradable resistant material. Depending on conditions, estimate the time taken for them to degrade range from British American Tobacco's 10 months - 3 years[2], to 11 years.

The filters don't.Mrgaritavill said:Is a cigarette really considered "litter" though? They are biodegradable (after some time anyway).
smcop said:I am a cop, but couldn't tell you what the fine is. What ever the fine for littering would be is what it is. The problem is that fine is in an obscure part of the transportation article, so many officers, including me, don't bother to look it up. I haven't seen anybody throw a cigarette out of a vehicle in several years. Last time I did, I wrote the ticket.

Since I see cops throwing their butts out the window, I suspect it's selective vision by the cops rather than people not doing it.LordStanley said:People tend to obey the law more when they see a cop near by.

I'm surprised they don't set up at the 235/4 intersection at the end of the month and fill up their quota. They could set up a cop with binoculars and a video camera (for use in court) watching the left turn lane, then have a production line writing tickets.
I guess it depends on where you drop them.Mrgaritavill said:actually, they do. they just take several years to decompose.
