I was browsing and ran across this. I clicked it and heard a VERY VERY faint whine, not even what I would call audible. Boy was sitting about 6 feet away watching a movie and he said "What is that?". I waited a few minutes and did it again. He can hear it very clearly but I wouldn't even notice it if I didn't know.

Turn 37 next Saturday. Didn't hear a thing. Not even a hint of sound.

When it first came out, it was called the "B" Tone - originally made to keep kids from loitering in British stores... Typically, people over 18 cannot hear it - especially in males.

As we get older we start to lose hi-frequency detection. Women lose hi-frequency detection later on somewhere in their mid to late 30's... Men lose hi-frequency detection around 25, but there are exceptions to the rule.

I guess normally the older you get you tend to lose hearing in the high pitch range. Some don't lose it.

It hurt my ears so bad, my ears are still hurting and it made my teeth hurt. I don't understand why anybody would willingly want to have that as their ringtone.

On a side note, I had it up in the office (curious) and there are several people in here younger than me, and many older. Nobody else said anything about hearing it.

At my last hearing screening, they said I had excellent hearing and I couldn't hear it either. I'll have to test it out tonight at home on the unsuspecting kids!!

I played it and both of my sons (teens) put their hands over their ears and said "What is that noise!". I could barely hear it.

I sent it to my mom at her work. She couldn't hear a thing, but called over a few co-workers and some of them covered their ears. The oldest was 21.
