Car Seat Dilema

I have Baby Booti in a rear facing carseat in the middle. Lil man is next to hear in his big boy carseat. Because my seat has a hump in the middle the seat will not sit completly level. It rocks a bit. I have a towel around the bottom edges to level it out right now. But, my wonderful son pushes the seat away from his because if annoys him that she's that close.

I've googled this answer but can't seem to find it. My next step is to call the doctor's office. I'm hoping that someone here can help me first.

My question to you is: Is it necessary to put a rear facing carseat in the center? Is there a law requiring it? Thanks so much! :flowers:

I don't think there is a law however it's just considered the safest place for all children as if there were a side impact the doors would smash into them.

:yeahthat: Sock, if her car seat isn't sitting properly in the center, than I would think it would be safer for her to be on one side in the back or the other where the seat can be strapped in appropriately.

Put the carseat behind the passenger seat. If the car seat is not safely sitting in its current location, then it is not safe. Just do not put it behind the driver. A child must be in a rear facing car seat until he or she is at least 1 year of age and 20 pounds. Then, kids must be in a forward facing car seat until age 6. Around age 4 and 40 pounds the kids can go in a booster seat of some sort-high back booster seats are considered the safest. You can get your car seat checked for safety by the fire department.

I am so very blessed
Socki - why not take the car and seat to one of the rescue squads/fire deepartments when they do their installation inspection of car seats. I'm sure that they have dealt with this issue before and can offer sound - sand safe - advice for you and your sweet babies.

On a side note, Bob's daughter was hit the other day by a jackalope going too fast up 235. The 6-week old baby was in the car seat in the back center and he did just fine. I'm so glad that he was safely protected by his comfy seat.

Baby up front, boy in the back.

You're welcome.
You can't put a child under 12 in the front seat if there is an air bag. They can get killed or seriously injured. Even if there is no airbag, it is still considered very unsafe. The boy may not be happy that the baby is breathing on him, but safety is paramount.

Ahhh, so both grub grabbers have to be in the back........gotcha. :yay:

I know that the 1 year of age is not true. My son was around 7 or 8 months when we could turn his around. I thought that it was 1 year old OR 22 pounds?

Yea.....but when my babies were babies, the only air bag in the car was their mother.

No. 1 year and at least 20 lbs. And actually they are saying as long as they can fit into a rear facing carseat they are safer that way. Why rush it?

My son was taller than the seat by 8 months. Doctor told me to put him front facing convertible seat.

I had the same issue, but that's an exception. For most cases, until the child is 1 year old and at least 20 pounds, they still need to be rear facing.
