You can go simple with the daily things -$.25 for brushing teeth, $.50 for a bath, etc. or towards the truer "chore" tasks like unloading the dishwasher, making the bed, picking up toys. The biggest obstacle is the behavioral thing. If they don't earn the money, they don't get the money. If they are just given the money, why earn it? You have to commit to the system.

Ok, but then what if it's a tight week and the brat brushes his teeth like 30 times one day or something? I don't want to go into debt to a 5 year old.

The sending your kid out in the socks/jammies thing is cool now...no kid really cares. Do you want to know how many times I myself have gone to the WalMart in my jammies with my roommates? Though think thru the socks...make them go barefoot. You end up paying for the sock thing when you have to wash them.

The whole teeth/bathroom thing is usually for younger children that are too young to have real chores. The concept is behavioral, rewarding good behaviors and habits, raising the difficulty of getting the chores with age. You don't have to do it per chore, say max allowance is $7 a week (that is a lot of money, but I don't like math). A grid chart with each daily task-say 10 tasks a day at $.10 each, 20 tasks a $.05 however you want to do it.

You guys are harder and pickier than my professors!

My kids got a thank you :lol: no chart and were expected to do family chores as being part of the family unit. Teaching them to expect rewards for doing something they should be doing anyway tells me people take the easy way out instead of teaching family values.

How did you pass all of your bio/chem/math classes in undergrad school if you can't do simple math like that?
