cat is dying and on the loose...

We just brought home our cat from the vets on Tuesday, when they told us he wasn't long for this world. He has mouth cancer and was bleeding fairly heavy from his mouth. He is nothing but bones and could hardly walk.

Yesterday morning, my hubby went and put him outside. (He is an inside/outside cat.) He gets up before me, so I was not there when he did it.

Now I am worried, because he has not returned.
I have been checking every hour to see if he has come home...
I do not want him to die somewhere and get eaten by vultures and other animals!

Does anyone have any suggestions out there?

Animals will do that. Go off and die. Sorry. Maybe better you don't see anyway.

Yes, animals will go off somewhere secluded and die. I'm sorry this happened. I have to ask though........why would you guys let the cat out in the world when he is on his last life? It sounds as if he was to weak to be out in the world at this time.

Mudpuddle said that the Husband did it. The little thing did what most animals do. Sorry to hear about this. Everything will be OK.

I had no idea my husband was going to let him out. He usually ignores the pets, and I am the one who takes care of them. I had told him that he shouldn't be going out and he didn't listen to me. He said, I let him out because I thought he would come back as he always does. I was asleep at the time he let him out...I am so angry at myself for not being up. I would have stopped it....

Personally, I would have put him down while at the vets. We had to do that with both of our senior dogs, it wasn't easy but we could not bear to put our companions through that, they were too good to us for too long to allow that suffering.

I do hope you find your cat.

I feel so bad for you. I know you must be so upset. It is not your fault, nor your husband's. Things just happen. And, I do think that things happen for a reason, even though, we may not understand, at the time. :huggy:

I say this in all seriousness. If it were me in this situation, someone would be getting punched.
Nope.

I will never take another pet to the vet to get "put down".

Look in small areas, under house (if you have a crawl space), under porch, if you have fallen trees look inside the root base. You have my empathy, not knowing is always the worse. Don't be mad at your husband either. I know it may hurt your heart but think of it as Kitty's last wish to die outside where it loved to play.

May I ask why? Just curious thats all. I had the vet come to the house for the last pet we had PTS. Much better than taking him to the office IMO.

I believe and hope that he would have the vet come to his home.

I am the same way. I will not have my pets put down at the vets office.
They will rest in peace at home.

PS. Our Vet will come to our house, like last time we had to put our Lab down.

We had my dog put down at the vet office. He stopped eating and couldn't walk anymore. You could tell he had pain in his eyes. It was one of the hardest things I've had to do. Even when I moved out, I couldn't wait to go back to my parents to see him. Black Lab/Akita mix. He was 15 years old and his hips couldn't take the weight anymore. We brought him home afterwards to be laid to rest at home. My first dog was 16 when she died, but my dad took care of putting her down. Accidentally I should say.

All of the cats we had aged and disappeared. It was their time and they knew it. It's something that they do. I always thought it was a respect type thing, they didn't want the owners to see them at their worse, so they would do it peacefully and by themselves. Our cats respected us a lot. Could tell by the amount of mice, moles, and squirrels they would leave at the door we mostly used.

I know you feel horrible. I had a cat that was dying of leukemia. The very day I was going to take him to the vet to be put to sleep is the day he just up and ran out of the house, dropped in the driveway, took a few breaths, and then ran into the woods knowing I was coming after him. The cat's obvious desire was to go off and die. I had to respect that even if it did break my heart into a million pieces.

They are our pets, but they really are closer to the natural cycles of life than we seem to be. Maybe your cat doing this is a blessing in disguise? At any rate, I'm very sorry. :huggy:
