This is so very sad. I am sorry to hear of your loss. My dog also had cancer of the mouth and he died earlier this year. I opted to have him put to sleep though. :huggy:

well, our cat did not seem to be in any pain...he was still eating. In fact, we had taken him to the vet to have his teeth cleaned just 2 days before he disappeared. That is when we found out he had cancer of the mouth. We had him at the vet, the week before that, but they couldn't do the cleaning, because they needed to put him on antibiotics for several days, due to his heart murmur. They also said that it was his gums bleeding. We had no idea that it was cancer.

The vet just gave him steroids, and kept him on fluids for the day he was there.(they put him under of course to work on his teeth.) They also gave him pain medication, and sent him home with us! Not a word was mentioned of putting him down, and I have to tell you, I was not ready to lose him on that day...but had we known that he was going to die (I assume he has by now), we would have put him down. The vet thought he still had a couple of weeks to live, although I know that this was just a guess. No one really knew for sure....

I am so sorry for your loss. Did he have cancer of the mouth long? Could he still eat for a while? (just wondering...)

He could still eat. I had found out that he had a tumor just weeks before and he was on oral steroids, had a steroid shot and on antibiotics. In just over 2 weeks even being on all those meds, it had gotten a lot worse. When I took him in, the vet told me it was a very aggressive cancer and we probably would only have him for another few weeks. He was 13 years old. It killed me. He was my baby. If I did not put him to sleep, he would of just quit eating and his pain would have gotten worse. I could not watch him go though that.............:bawl:

that is one thing, I didn't have to watch my cat die either by putting him down, or just naturally...I feel that God had spared me from it...
