Cat question

I had 2 cats. I had to put one down(female) last Christmas. I thought my other cat(male, fixed) was lonely so I adopted an older cat (female, fixed) at the end of summer - about 6 months ago. My male cat is NOT happy. After 6 months I was hoping they would get along. They are not. One or both of cats has started peeing everywhere. They each have their own litter box and they do use it 98% of the time. But that 2% is driving me nuts. I found a great product to remove the cat urine smell - but it is a long process and a pain in the neck. Any suggestions on what I can do to
1. get them to stop peeing on everything
2. get along

At one point I tried to find a new home for the cat I adopted - but didn't have any luck. I don't want to hand her over to a shelter.

Adopt me please !
I have seen this type of problem before. Usually what solves the problem is trying another cat as the buddy, and placing the one that didn't work out in another home. After 6 months, the chances are it's not going to work out unfortunately.

I have a cat that hissed at another cat for at least 6 months, but none were having any potty issues. Eventually the 2 cats were sleeping together and buddies.

Are BOTH cats protesting by peeing or is it just 1 cat? Maybe you can do a "trade" with someone else who has a cat that's not getting along? It's worth a try.
