Cat's water

frequentflier

happy to be living
He does not seems to have the symptoms of cystitis and the vet has never mentioned it. She had me change his diet to wet food only as to decrease his protein and increase his water. I have tried the drippy water..but I cannot leave a glass or cup of water because he likes to scoot stuff off the table and watch it fall.

Add water to his wet food.

Methodically disorganized
Our newest loves the plastic rings off of the milk jugs and the coffee creamer containers. Lately he has been stashing them in the water bowl.
My other girl does this with the food bowl. Often, after playing with her, I will notice that she has taken the toy of the moment (plastic tie things, mice, whatever) and placed it in the bowl.

I guess at this point, we can say to Rich: NO, there is no rhyme or reason to these things; your cat actually seems quite normal in her weirdness, so try to laugh when she does it.

My sphynx loves to drink out of the toilet. Or rather play in the toilet. We have to keep the lid down because if we don't there are dirty wet kitty prints all over. He also likes to "swim" in the water bowl and gets water everywhere. Then he gets upset because he feet get cold. We have just learned to deal with it. He really likes water.

Both of my cats like me to run the bath tub several times a day - just a little stream. They love it.

I have a Cat It (I think) water fountain bowel. It is the larger variety that has the dome on one side with the pump under that circulates the water and the other side has the water. I have the optional blue mat to go under it and this has spots to put the entier water dish assembly inside of so it cannot be moved. However, they still get splash water outside of it when they are getting crazy.

No other answer for you - they like messing with you.

I have two cats, a boy and a girl. Within the past 3 months my girl cat will either step in the water dish or slap the water out with her paw. Her fur is always wet and she is making a mess on the floor. Does anyone have any idea why she is doing this and if there is anyway to try and break her of this habit?

Two girl cats are like their water super fresh and follow me into the bathroom so I'll put some in the sink for them. Boy cat drinks out of the big waterer in the kitchen.

The DOGS are the ones that make the mess. I have that big jug, self watering thingy and underneath it a serving tray with about 1" tall sides. They still manage to get it everywhere. They've warped my wood floor where the waterbowl is. :bawl:

Cody drips water everywhere so we just keep a thick towel (folded in half) down under his bowls. In our old house we used a waterproof doormat and it worked well, but the rubber backing stuck to the floor and I had to scrape it off (at that point we put the towel under the mat, then just used the towel by itself). I bought the cheapest mat I could find, which is probably why it stuck to the floor. It kept the water from ruining the floor, though.

Thanks Lovie. I didn't even think of putting a towel under the tray. :stupid: That would completely fix the problem. I wipe up what I can see but every time I move the entire thing to sweep/mop the underneath is wet and that's where the floor is warping.

Long time ago, cats would "fish", no kidding,...and some wild breeds still do..they "flick" a small fish out of the shallows and tataaaa..fish diner.
My Stella does it and makes a mess...I put down big towels, baking pans..and she still makes a mess...so I just live with it.
If fishing in the water bowl is her worse behavior..it is fine with me.

Sorry.

I had one who would pick a piece off food out of the dish with her paw. She would then eat it and would use the same paw to get a drink of water.

She also would get into the shower with me.

Current male goes into the bathtub where we have a dripping faucet. He stands there and lets it drip down his forehead, onto his paw and then licks it.
Funny creatures.

I did have one years ago who would just drink out of the toilet.

I had a cat that would only eat the "crunchy" food. Quite often though, she would scoop some into her water, then eat them.

I saw one of those funny online vids; a cat on kitchen sink, sticking its head under the slow-running water; and drinking from the faucet.
Just thought I'd share.

I had an aquarium at one time. My cat used to sit on top of the aluminum hood when she was light enough to. One day she fell into the tank up to her shoulders. Funny as H*ll until I had to get the water outta the carpet.

Have you tried fashioning a "tray" out of aluminum foil? Won't leak.

STEELERS NATION!!
I forgot all about this thread. As quick as she started this habit, she stopped. Every once in a while she will still step in the water dish but not nearly as bad as is was. Cats are frickin weird!

 I had one that would turn on the kitchen facet, play in the water and leave. It wouldn't have been so bad if he turned it off when he was done playing but when you wake up in the morning hearing the water running, you gotta worry about the bill.

He has since stopped.

I used to have a YouTube video of a cat that was fascinated with the swirl in the toilet; so it would flush, and watch......over.....and over.....

OMG :lmao:

I hope he never ever figures out he can do that... My water bill is usually like $25 a month; the month he was turning on the water all the time, it was double. I bet a flushing toilet is pretty costly!
