Thanks for your comments. It seems that most everyone has verizon and they have no probs. Dang!

No one with T-mobile tho?

Where exactly are you moving to?

T-mobile isn't too big around this way. T-mobile is usually better in metropolitan areas.

I use to have Cingular and didnt have a single problem with it. I had signals in Ridge, Bushwood, and St Clements Shores which is places I wouldn't have thought I would have service.

I have T-Mobile and will probably be leaving it. To their credit, T-Mobile offers incredibly detailed neighborhood maps showing tower strength in your area (much better than the general coverage maps of other carriers). You can find it buried in their website. In addition, they also have a policy of 'unlocking' your phone after 6 months so in case you travel overseas you can use the same phone simply by swapping in a local SIM card (which is really convenient and cheaper).

But their coverage is spotty. In Calvert, they have a dead zone on the hills just approaching Chesapeake Beach, Chesapeake Beach -> Plum Point Road, Rt 4 around Lusby, Rt. 4 after you cross the bridge over the Patuxent. On the way to DC it goes out in Upper Marlboro, and one or two curves of the Suitland Parkway, along with by the Jefferson Memorial. The list goes on and on....

I'm probably switching to Verizon, in large part because of the negative comments I've seen here about Cingular. I think Verizon is the anti-christ, but I can't have my commute to DC interrupted four times due to dead zones...

Here's the deal, I'm moving to So MD and I need a new cell phone but I would like to know how the coverage is for the different carriers around that area.

What better way than to ask the customers themselves. So I ask for your help in letting me know the following:

1. What carrier you have
2. What areas you use it in. By counties maybe?
3. What kind of cell phone. You can just say new or older.
4. Are you happy with your carrier or if you could get out you would.

I'm specifically looking at T-Mobile because of their plans but I'd consider just about anything. I have verizon now but I'd like to change....

I have Verizon and I get a signal everywhere. My whole family has Verizon, so there's no reason for me to want to lose the in-calls

My whole family has got Verizon, and they gave us a sorta "Triple Treat" deal where all three of us have any model phone we choose and we get a special rate for calling each other. So far, it appears to be entirely reliable, with very few dead areas anywhere in the USA. We used our phones when we were visiting in Nebraska, and didn't experience any problems.

I must agree. Keep Verizon Wireless. The customer service is a little hard to deal with sometimes but aren't they all? I carry a VW personal phone and a NEXTEL work phone. At home I get five bars on the Verizon phone and NO SERVICE on the NEXTEL phone. Im in Northern Calvert.

I switched from Verizon to Cingular recently. I liked Verizon and if I lived anywhere but St. Inigoes I'd still have them. But Cingular seems to be the only service that will pick up here at the end of the earth.

Cingular here also, for the phones and computer. We like Cingular, mostly because we get service on our property in WA, which is in the middle of nowhere.

I generally have 3-5 bars down here with Verizon  You're even supposed to be able to get wireless broadband through Verizon down here!

I had Cingular when I moved to Ridge and had no signal. Had to drive to Rod-N-Reel before I could even get a good signal and I had a good phone. Once I switched to Verizon I had no problems.

What kind of phone & plan

Ok, for all you that have Verizon, what kind of phones do you have and what kind of plan.

My husband and I moved here a little over a year ago and I have had my phone's software upgraded twice since we have been here and it has only made matters worse for me. In fact, last fall after they upgraded it the second time we were traveling across country and had an emergency, my phone didn't work at all, then we remembered my husband's phone which worked.

We purchased a home in Chesapeake Ranch Estates, and our cell phones will not work here at all, so for the first time in 7 years we had to get a land line. We went with Vonage because we have cable internet. They are the best thing since sliced bread.

All of your information is greatly appreciated, and I thank you in advance.

I've had good luck with Nextel down here. I've had them 6 years and it's been good so far. I have a Sprint card for my laptop and it can't get a signal to save it's life!

I had Cingular when I first got here. I lived in Hollywood Shores at the time and I had a good signal as long as I stayed in that area. When I moved to the Lexington Park area I couldn't get a signal. My wife and I then switched to AT&T and we had pretty good luck with them. We switched to T-Mobile when AT&T wanted to start charging more for service. We had problems with the phones and kept dropping calls.

We now have Verizon and have had good luck so far except that we live in a mobile home and because the trailer is made of metal, we sometimes have to search for a good signal inside.

All you guys that keep switching carriers, isn't it expensive paying the cancellation fee's? We have both Verizon and Nextel but in way too many areas the Nextel is useless.

What?!
I've had Nextel for about 5 yrs now and I have no issues with them :yikes: I don't have any problems getting a signal either. Well, unless it's around Pt lookout, but nobody gets a signal down there.
