Chained dog outisde needs home ASAP

I found out about a dog being given away. The owner said this about him:

"Golden Retriever/Samoyed
I have a 2yrs in October male dog. I need to find a good home for him.
He. Keeps running to our neighbors house and it's becoming a problem.
If you have a lot of yard or a fenced in yard he would be perfect for
you. He has long yellow hair. He has not been neuterekd. He is up to
date on all shots. He loves to chase birds in the air and airplanes. I
cannot find the time to give him the attention he needs. He is a
loving dog but I feel he would have a better life somewhere else since
for the last month or two he has been chained up outside. I don't
think that is a good life for a sweet dog like he is. He has been an
outside dog his whole life so far so I'm sure he needs a really good
bath and grooming which is something else I can not keep up with."
---------------

So if anyone can help by fostering this dog, or know a dog rescue that can take him, please let me know. Sounds like this dog needs a good grooming, to be neutered, and placed in a home as an indoor pet. This heat we have had is no place for a dog with a lot of fur. I'm hoping we can get this dog into a home this weekend.

Yeah I know. I am wondering if I can get a relative to take him, even if just for a few days, so he can have a home with a/c later today? If taken outside often enough, I'm sure he can grasp the concept of where to potty.

Even the shelter would be an option, they at least have a/c. My job is to keep critters out of the shelter though, so I really want to find him a foster home.

but look at what the owner will have to deal with.

heartworm check (if he is positive...then the cost of treatment)
neuter
bath, groom , de- flea and tick the dog

In addition to not being housebroken, is he UTD on other vaccinations? All the above can add up to a pretty hefty bill.

But I do seriously hope you can find him a good home, Arkie!

yeah i know a person down here who said yeah we are going to neuter our dog but the dog is working on 3yrs old and still not neutered. the same person also said taking the dog to the vet is too expensive but he does it only when he needs to. the dog hae was losing all his hair around his eyes and guess what he found out the dog has allergies so i said do you bring the dog in and he said no and i never will either cause they have a tiny chihuahua (sp) in the house and they only really wanted this dog for hunting in the winter time and that is it. they barely give the dog any attention his son admitted to only playing with the dog once in a while and that is it. It makes me mad why have a dog if you aren't going to give it all the love in the world all they do is go out and feed and give the dog fresh water then pay no mind to it after that. the dog also since he isn't fixed keeps escaping his kennel outside to find an unfixed female to get pregnant. I don't get why people can't just have dogs as family pets and let them be with them and give them all the love in the world.

If he's been chained outside he needs to be tested for Lyme as well. My dog got it, even with all the preventatives and being an inside dweller.

This pisses me off.

Don't get a dog if you aren't going to spend the time working with it! I hate seeing people just give up on a dog because they don't know how to train it. Did you think A dog would be cheap? Easy? They're all cute as puppies, but did you think it wouldn't grow up!?

So very true! Since we last chatted I took in a 5 year old Beagle that was neglected for his entire life and left to squander in a pen with little contact. First was the de-flea/de-ticking of him for a week before I could bring him into the house. Then the $140 at the vet to get him UTD on shots (boosters come next week), the previous owner thought that Bandit was taken last year to the fairgrounds for a Rabies shot but couldn't remember and had no paperwork.

His health has improved and now that he is getting fed good food (not Kibbles and Bits) he has gained 5 lbs. He is a sweetheart, but currently I am trying to figure out how to housebreak him. If I keep him in the bathroom or in a kennel he is fine but as soon as I turn my back and let him run the downstairs with my other dogs he will do his business even after walking him around the yard on a leash. Got any ideas or suggestions?

:killingme Foster another dog!!!!!!!!! You are too funny!!!!!!!!! I have 2 kids of my own that try to challenge me and then I took in Bandit. If I can find a loving home for Bandit, then I have space available to foster another pup.

No, Bandit is fine in the kennel and in the bathroom. No accidents or issues. This little guy does not know what to do with toys, he will NOT take a treat from me (I have to pry his little jaws open to put a treat in. I have to do it this way so he knows to eat it and not leave it on the floor for him or else he be out muscled by the bigger dogs and not have a treat.), and he has serious separation anxiety.

BTW, I managed to re-home the feral kitten that I caught and had vetted! Mama cat is more affectionate now that she has been vetted, I had to release her to the wild again as she is too much of a free spirit to try to re-rehabilitate into an indoor animal. She seems to stay near her food and water much more now than she previously did.

"He has all the shots he's supposed to have, I believe. He just went to vet in early March. He has heartworm preventative med. he has K9advantix, but I'm sure he's covered in ticks because we live back in woods. He does not jump fences. He has been to Petco one time and was groomed back in March as well I think"
_______

So that's all I know so far. Oh and here are his jail cell pics from the shelter when he got away and they had to redeem him. Isn't he cute?
