Chevon/Goat meat

Anyone had it? What does it taste like? I joined a food co-op and they don't have pork but they do have beef, chicken, lamb and chevon. Eating goats seems creepy to me. Is it good?

It is eaten or a part of every culture except for the majority of the US. Greek, African, French, Caribbean, so much more...

Its very good. There are many recipes online, but if you cant find them, PM me.

Tell me you won't grow a goatee after eating some of that meat?

Gross.

If it were any good, they wouldn't have had to invent some fancy French pseudonym for it.

Lived just north of the Mexican boarder with a Hispanic friend. One Thanksgiving he brought a whole baby goat for dinner. Salt & pepper over some mesquite ... man that was some good eats

Have you tried it? Or does it just sound gross to you?

If it's raised for the meat, it's good. Not much different from lamb. In fact, in many places it is called mutton.

I can understand thinking worms, insects, rotten meats, and cat poop coffee are gross. Meat - any kind - not so much.

Because it is less popular does not necessarily make it less good.

Never had it, but can't see what harm there would be in trying it.

I feel sorry for the first human (and all those who followed suit since then) who was hungry enough to snatch up and crack open a crab...:dead:

Of course it does. If it were better, more people would like it and it would be more popular.

Which is better: the very popular grilled ribeye, or the less popular gator on a stick?

The popular egg salad sandwich, or the less popular balut?

Not nearly as bad as the people who said "Let's cook up these chitlins!"

Or picked through the trash and cooked up a nice steaming bowl of tripe.

Or haggis.

Poverty sure can make the pompous "goat is gross and I don't eat babies" seem a bit arrogant.

There is no need to disparage and call me names. If you want to eat babies, have at it. I choose not to. And if eating babies makes you feel guilty and defensive, perhaps you should rethink your culinary choices.

Not to mention that neither veal, lamb nor baby goat would be a choice for the poor, as they are quite expensive meats. Poverty means Top Ramen, which I happen to love.

Had goat meat loaf once in a place called Tenerife (island off the East coast of Africa). Got food poisoning from it. Needless to say, that kinda turned me off on goat meat.
