Dream Stealer
My bestest friend in Frederick came here from Africa..he LOVED goat and couldnt figure out why we didnt eat much of it..he was so excited when he found a farm to get goat meat from. I don't care to try it..I have had lamb and i cannot get over the "taste" it has..il stick with chicken :) and tasty, tasty cows. I really love veal..but I do not eat it. It makes me sad and guilty. So I dont.

Have you tried it? Or does it just sound gross to you?

If it's raised for the meat, it's good. Not much different from lamb. In fact, in many places it is called mutton.

I can understand thinking worms, insects, rotten meats, and cat poop coffee are gross. Meat - any kind - not so much.

If it tastes like lamb, I probably wouldn't like it.

If you want to eat babies, have at it. I choose not to.

The chicken you eat is probably only 6-8 weeks old when it gets killed. That's MUCH younger than lambs, veal calves, and goats are when they're processed. :neener:

Goat is good as long as it's cooked properly! And goat meat is the most widely consumed meat in the world.

Of course it does. If it were better, more people would like it and it would be more popular.
No, it doesn't. It's all taste, what you get accustomed to and what the general culture finds 'acceptable' to consume.

As CG said, goat meat is widely consumed internationally, so it is reasonable to believe that if you grew up elsewhere you would be viewing this discussion from the opposing perspective and considering the anti-goat munchers the oddballs.

We are not talking about something totally exotic like brains or eyeballs. I think MMDad said, basically, that meat is meat. If it were BBQ'd with a little flavoring you might not notice it was anything different.

That's because they either:

A) Can't get anything better
B) Don't eat cows and pigs for religious reasons; or
C) They're French and think eating revolting food makes them chic and avant garde

We're Americans. We don't need to prove we're cool and we don't eat third world cuisine.

Goats 'grow' in far less productive lands, lands that can't sustain cows. Think of them as a weed whereas a cow is more like a mum that needs lots and lots of feed.

There is no need to disparage and call me names. If you want to eat babies, have at it. I choose not to. And if eating babies makes you feel guilty and defensive, perhaps you should rethink your culinary choices.

Not to mention that neither veal, lamb nor baby goat would be a choice for the poor, as they are quite expensive meats. Poverty means Top Ramen, which I happen to love.

I totally understand your feelings....a lot of the goats we sold for butchering were adults, and depending on the culture, intact bucks....huge!

The 4H club I work with did a really neat demonstration of meats and cooking....same recipe with goat meat, beef, pork, mutton and chicken. You couldnt tell which was which, and they were all good!

Someone said earlier who would have thought to have cracked open the first crab for sustenance? A lobster is even scarier looking.

I enjoy food (probably too much)

If goat was readily available I would definitely try it and probably like it.

I know I ate dog in the Philippines and it was...hate to say it...very tasty.

I didn't find out until after I ate this wonderful BBQ on-a-stick.

That's why I never eat mystery meat - I make them identify exactly what animal it came from, and what exact part of the animal it is. There will be no tricking me with innocuous-sounding dishes like "turkey fries".
