Choking the motorcycle

My little Honda Rebel used to start just fine. Now I have to put the choke on to start it and have to keep it on while riding, even when it warms up. And, also, it is like "thrusting" when I first go out and after about a half mile, it starts running okay. What does this mean? It will not run without the choke on. Has 1500 miles on it.

BS Gal, I found the response below, same problem, from (http://www.vtwinmama.com/work_on_bike_2003_b.htm):

"Pulling out the choke delivers more gas to the carburetor. If you are not able to push in the choke after the bike has warmed up (usually five minutes or so), then the carb is starving for gas. The first simple measure I would do is to add some carb cleaner, available from auto parts stores or your local bike dealer, to your gas tank (read the proportion mix carefully). You'll need to run the bike for a bunch of miles for the gas/carb cleaner mixture to do its work in cleaning out any gunk. I would also check to see if that bike has a fuel filter. It's possible sediment has clogged it."

Hope it helps...
