Civil War Reenacting

Unfortunately no. My parents had my old stuff but loaned it out and never got it back so that option is gone. We just moved here so I do not know anyone anymore that is doing it besides my parents friends but they do not have children's stuff any longer. That is why I am looking around.

Good luck in your search.

If you got that programing (that brainwashing) from your parents -

- then now you are passing that garbage onto your own next generation.

Please stop harrassing Kountza! I am sure she doesn't understand it at all. This is not a controversial thread, like politics or religion... go post on one of those, they love when you show up! Kountza has the right to participate in whatever she wants. Next, are you going to tell her that learning to sew and making a period costume is bad parenting, too? If you need someone to harrass, pick me. I am sure you can think of something that I am doing wrong in my life that is against your principles. I couldn't stand it anymore seeing your posts on this thread keep popping up? I felt the need to butt in.

Edit: Maybe you will want to harrass me on this...My favorite movie is Gone With The Wind, I love history and want to know as much about the Civil War as possible, I have gone to reinactments in Louisiana, in college I went to an event called Old South that one of the fraternities held (I wore an antebellum dress and some of the guys wore confederate uniforms), I love the song Dixie, I own a few civil war relics and a rebel flag...if I think of more, I will post them. Do you harrass the Smithsonian for having exhibits about the Civil War, or Jefferson Patterson Park for holding a War of 1812 reinactment, or the people in southern Maryland who live in historical houses of which the past owners had slaves, or the docents at Sotterly who tell the history of the plantation including the Civil War period? Sheesh!

There is no harassing here.

I suppose that you are expecting to get those two new recruits and I am trying to interfere.

Surely the Woman / mother does indeed understand, as she dresses her 8 year old in military clothing then plays like killing people and blowing up people with cannons, then she is completely capable of understanding of how morally reprehensible it is too.

And it is NOT harassing when I post politely and tell the message with decent honesty with due regard for the people involved.

You are correct that everything you name is ugly and nasty to me, and I say you demonstrate the bigger point - that the Civil War reenactment is far more sinister then simply playing murder games, because the Civil war represents the ugly hateful racism and injustices which are directly included in that charade.

You might see the 8 year old as just some new recruit for that debaucheries, but I say the Mom (and the Dad) needs to rightly consider the girl's heart and mind and her soul which are being perverted by those war games.

Actually..I sincerely hope that this is what gets you tossed off this forum forever. Your misguided and brain-addled political ramblings in the appropriate forum sections are one thing, but this is quite over the top. IMHO. This garbage of yours is what will simply make good people leave and not come back.

I tried Kountza...I hope JP is going to leave you alone. ETC is right... we want to remember and honor all soldiers that have fought for what they believe and to protect our country; whether home or abroad. Good luck in finding what you need for the reenactment. I hope your family has a great time and your daughter learns lots about the Civil War!

I am blessed to have...

Thank you! Actually, where do you get your Colonial clothing? Do you make them? My daughter wants and 18th century gown also, she is in love with Colonial Williamsburg but like I posted I do not sew but it looks like I need to learn!! :)

Two excellent distaff, as well as several young ladies who enjoy the challenge of making their own clothing from patterns. For an 8 year old...it might be fun just to practice on a breadbag (haversack) or a cloth fife-case. We will be at Marietta...come by Brooke's company of the Calvert militia.

If I'm there, it will probably rain....so bring a poncho.
I do not know what the cost is for entry but it is several hours of fun for anyone interested in History (unlike JPC who would likely run away screaming from the WWII nurses.)

If soemone can either point me in the right direction or may have something you are willing to sell or help me learn how to sew I would greatly appreciate it. Her first event is May 12th. Thank you so much!!!

For sewing classes, if you don't have any luck at JoAnns, you could try Michaels, Hancocks, or any other fabric store, really. I'm partial to Material Girls in La Plata, but if that's too far for you, there's Michelles Quilts in Hughesville you could try. Both offer classes. I don't know very much about what there is in Calvert or St. Marys. Finally, if you don't want to sign up for one of those and you're free during the day on Fridays, the SoMd Chapter of the American Sewing Guild meets once or twice a month at the Charlotte Hall library at Noon. (see Maryland ASG Home Page for schedule) Someone at those meetings may have other suggestions. If you have a pattern you're having trouble with, sometimes it really helps just to have a more experienced sewer go over the pattern with you to see how everything is supposed to fit together.

I find sewing to be an excellent skill to have. Although I personally find sewing clothing to be pretty tedious, I love doing other projects with scraps and remnants. I further suggest that if you do decide to make a costume for your daughter, let her be involved with the sewing, that way she can learn how to sew as well.

The skills, & the material.

I would hope that you visit a suttler to get the right kind of fabric.

(pattern & weave)...if you want to be authentic,...make sure both elements fit the era. Reenactors spent countless hours around the fire telling tales of newbies who show up with polyester & velcro plus foil buckles...& safety pins.

machine stitch the hidden seams,....hand stitch the visible.
Its always best to borrow clothing, & spend a weekend with period reenactors who are almost always willing to help/share what they have.
(The smell of wood smoke, kitchen grease, and spark holes add the right patina!)

Excellent.

What did you teach your son by abandoning him and his mother? You are THE last person who should be giving any sort of parenting advice.
:hot:
You never answered my question...

Believe it or not I was trying NOT to take this thread off the subject as we do not have to always talk about me and my business.

But now I see that I was wrong again as this is a real part of this subject and I guess I thank you for pressing me on it.

So yes - I taught my own son the worst possible lessons, and my own son turned out to be very deficient and troubled in horrible ways.

As such I really do believe that I am talking from experience about how a parent can ruin our own children.

I live with my own horrible regrets as my son was severely damaged by my own wrong doing, and as such then I say to any or all other parents to do better than I.

I care and love my son - and every time he does wrong then I myself pay with my own misery.

I never say that I know how to raise a child the best - oh no, but to screw up a child is something which I know very well.

So train up a child to dress up like a soldier and teach them to pretend killing people and tell them lies that war is glamorous and teach them lies that the Civil War was not about the inhumanity of slavery and of white barbarism, and in later years it will be the Mommy who will live with her own regrets.

You attacked the newbie in Post #2 and made this all about you. All she asked about was finding a dress. Now, please be quiet.

If anything I would say Civil War reenactment teaches that war is horrible. It is a part of out History and should be remembered.

So...blasting the past is wise?

You want to know horrible?
Try standing in wool at attention in 90 degree temperatures.

Try itching continuously from straw filled with mites & spiders.

Try having the newbie next to you load triple the gunpowder before it goes off with a roaring explosion.

Try eating yesterday's dinner out of an iron pot.

Try crawling across a battlefield in searing heat and knowing you are 20 minutes from heat stroke.

Try shivering in a canvas tent with two blankets & a bed roll at 26 degrees.

....and doing this to push yourself & teach others about sacrifice, duty, loyalty, and regret.
Until then, shut your pie hole jpc.

The Civil War is part of our history and the fact this young girl is only 8 years old and interested is amazing. kountza is a great parent for not only spending time with her daughter but also doing something as educational as this. JP, you cannot possibly make up for your mistakes by pushing your unwanted advice onto others. You failed as a parent, kountza won't.

Your son probably would of been a great man if you did Civil war reenactments with him, or for that matter ANYTHING with him..

You have got to be the biggest piece of crap in tje entire state.
