Cleanup for pope's Philadelphia Mass sweeps homeless aside

I don't get how you people run this place. The 'littlelady' got penalized for saying nonsense yet, this person responds in kind (and more trashy I might add) and gets away scott free? Whaaa...

I have read about people playing favorites and there being groups that stick together but, shouldn't BOTH of these people get penalized?

Hi SGPlayer! :howdy:

Nice to see that you are back!

I have done quite a bit of reading on here and know the history. Although I agree with you, I just wonder why "punishments" are not doled out evenly. Both people slinging poo at each other and only 1 is penalized? Regardless of past history.... both should be reprimanded.

Ahhh....

So, in other words, what you are saying is that this place is run like a high school?

Interesting. It just seems that in this specific situation that it was unbalanced. Oh well

:yay: Exactly! I thought it was awfully funny that all of a sudden, someone who's "done a lot of reading" around here, jumps in and starts whining :wah: because someone gets infracted and someone else didn't. (as if they know what is done to whom)

:killingme They always out themselves!

Members can be banned for whining? Who knew?

Have you ever heard the ole Shakespeare line, 'The lady doth protest too much, methinks'? Just wondering.

Also, how did you decide what to pick for your forum name? Just wondering that, too.

You call commentary/opinion that you don't agree with, whining, and think the poster is a banned member who has come back? Okey dokey.

Not if one is your best friend and she's under attack time again by someone who carries hatred in her heart.

I missed this earlier. :huggy: Thank you for being so nice. Even though Vrai and I are really good friends, (she has a ton of good friends on this forum, not just me, and some she has known twice as long as she's known me) but her "Bestie" is Pete.

"The pope's whole message of mercy and justice is not being mirrored by the city of Philadelphia and the Secret Service here," said Brian Jenkins, who runs Chosen 300 Ministries, a homeless advocacy group that distributes food in the area.

It looks to me like it was the City and Feds who made that decision. Do you suppose the Pope knew that the homeless man was being moved?

Really? I'll bet he knows where every place to eat is. Plus, he can find another street vent. A street is a street. He is supposedly an alcoholic on hard times, but he has a belly underneath that flannel shirt and he has a cigarette. I'm sure the "advocates" have tried to place him in a shelter any number of times, and he refuses. Why is it too much to ask that he moves his butt somewhere else so that the Pope can say mass there?

Wow. What complete lack of empathy. Your comments are astounding.

First, I know Joe, having met him near the Parkway a year and a half ago as he was leaving the library after spending hours here looking for jobs on the computer. He is not the person shown in the photo of the Inquirer article. He was simply quoted in the article.

Second, you have no idea what the system is like for someone who is homeless and who may have addiction problems. It's almost impossible to get some sort of medium-long term housing, especially if you are not a family.

I got to know Joe so much around the time of the papal visit that, as it got cold, I invited him to stay with me at my home nearby. He was always polite, gentle and tried to be as helpful as he could to "repay" my kindness. He is a kind person and father who dearly loves his two teenage sons but who is estranged from them. While he stayed with me, he made his bed neatly every day and left the day looking for work. He succeeded eventually in getting two jobs, at locations requiring a commute of almost 1 1/2 a day on public transit, sometimes late at night. Joe wanted desperately to keep the jobs but the impossible commute -- and his inability to overcome his alcohol addiction-- got the better of him.

In the end, after 18 months of trying to give Joe some housing stability to help him got on his feet, I was unable to continue. We have tried to get him into a stable shelter, and he has tried to refocus on overcoming his addiction which is the root of his problems, but it is very difficult.

Joe, after leading a productive life in his 30s and 40s, lost his family support, his assets, has no car, no money and tens of thousands of dollars in support arrearages. He tries every day to get back on his feet. It is an almost impossible burden. He is a good person.

From your shameless comments, I can tell you have absolutely no empathy or idea of what struggles people like him deal with. Can you imagine not knowing where you will sleep each night, and the danger of sleeping o the streets and even in shelters?
