Immediately after Stelter made his remarks, he brought Shahid on his show, who claimed that there was a massive conspiracy theory behind the criticisms of Omar.CNN's Brian Stelter defends Ilhan Omar's remarks trivializing the 9/11 attacks: “This controversy was created. … Omar’s comment was used as a weapon against her.” pic.twitter.com/3E8Cuqk2Jj

Shahid claimed that billionaires were secretly trying to "defame and destroy the character of Ilhan Omar" because they want to protect themselves from being taxed more and they don't want people to get healthcare.
"So many stories are like this. First of all it starts off with alt-right, far-right Twitter. Then it goes to the Daily Caller which boosts it up. Then it goes to outlets like Fox News. Then it's the entire Republican Party is united around a singular message, which is to defame and destroy the character of Ilhan Omar. Like you were saying, it is part of this long 50-year strategy that began with the southern strategy in the Republican Party to divide white voters from voters of color," Shahid claimed.
