I need a little help from you locals of the county. Does anyone know if any of the beach at Colton's point in MD is public?. I know their is one dock that is public but it seems everytime we've tried to go there someone is telling us whatever part of the little bit of shoreline we are on is private property.. Just wondering if the actual dock is the only public part or if there is some of the beach I can visit where I wont get yelled at.

If not......... Do any of you have any good suggestions for any local beaches/shoreline that could be visited?... Seems as though unless you have the money to buy a house on the water here in Maryland you get stuck with the stagnant water areas like Myrtle Point. Just wondering if there were any places like Coltons point that were public besides Point lookout etc...

Unless someone has a pool they want to share???? :p I'll bring the :buddies:

Thanks for any info!!! :) just need some swimtime and lost all my good contacts I kept for their pools! hehehe

Didn't the state buy most of Newtowne Neck, over in the Compton area and make it a park. You could get to the river and St. Clements Bay pretty easy over that way.

I think Newtowne Neck may still be closed due to unexploded ordnance? The little beach at Coltons Point is private up to the high tide line. Beyond the little seawall is all private. The Elm's property is public but you should brush up on your spanish, if you access to Pax that beach is pretty nice for around here. You could always hop the water taxi out to Blackistone Island and spend the day out there.

Greenwell state park has a small beach. If you have base access, both Pax & Solomon's have nice beaches.

Didn't know that they had closed it. That stinks. Do you know if the state is actively working to clean it up or are they just keeping it closed? They've been picking up that stuff down there for years. Guess it wasn't a problem when the Jesuits owned the property. I remember walking that entire farm over the years when I was cutting 'bacca for Mr. Russell and then when the Bucksnorts used part of the area for the big party for a number of years. Such a waste if the state isn't really doing anything to clean it up.

Myrtle Point has a great beach, Just have to walk out towards the point. Gets deep really quickly on the side facing towards St Marys Co near the point, so be warned. Forty feet or so just a few feet off shore. The other side facing Calvert has a gentle slope.

then when the Bucksnorts used part of the area for the big party for a number of years.

Whooowee. And I still lived in Colton's Point back then too..it was short boat ride to the river bank that had to be climbed to get to the party. :buddies:

We used to take the kids to the beach in front of the museum..and to the beach(es) along the north side of the entrance to St. Patricks Creek...Port Sunlight we called it. Or around the corner to Shipping Pt, just past Canoe Neck. 25 years ago and more.

But since Joker didn't identify any of those as accessible any more, I'm guessing that means they aren't. He would know.

Some of the best "beaches" are straight across the river from Colton's Point. Shark Tooth Island and all manner of sandy shore along the various loam cliffs. But that requires a boat and I'm guessing that's not what you are looking for.

I lived in Colton's Point too.. Loved Port Sunlight woods. Used to ride bike all through those roads. Went up to what is now Cathers on the old woods roads. I don't think they are even there any more. Leave Cathers and swing over to Frank Lawrences store for junk food and soda pops...

You have to pay a fee to use Shark Tooth island now as it is privately owned.

They are doing work on the govt. pier at Colton's and I dunno if they have it open.

Not really much down that way now.

I'll be getting my boat in a week or two, mom and dad are starting to lose a little mobility and they figure that they can come over hare and run a trot line just as well as they can down in St. Jerome's and Tippitywitch.

We still call it Port Sunlight, but there are no trees anymore.

I noticed that. Back in the day that whole point was our playground...for wheeling and partying both. I see nice houses there now, when I bring the cruiser in to fill up at Andy's.

Sad...but I guess it all goes away sooner or later.
