Con Man in Lexington Park/California MD

It just sounds like panhandling but on a larger scale. It's no different than the guy who says he needs $1.00 for a cup of coffee then goes and buys a 40oz King Cobra.

I wouldn't call it a con unless the guy promises to pay you back or promises to give you something in return and then doesn't. Otherwise, it's just panhandling.

According to some of the posts on Baynet from citizens who have experienced this person, he does offer to pay them back. Given the average amount of money this guy asks for ($25.00) and his line, I'd call it a con...:nomoney:

So what's the guys name, what does he look like.. apparently Baynet wants to protect a criminal so he can keep running his scams.. I don't THINK SOMD would censor someone's name out of a thread if he ripped us off...

I agree, maybe because it was reported in a letter to the editor and not an actual police report, still it seems logical to me that his picture/name would be reported in one of the papers or on the St. Mary's Sheriff's website.

Maybe one of our forum law enforcement folks could fill us in?

I was at a shopping center in Annapolis a few weeks ago and had a similiar thing happen. Guy asked for 3 bucks for gas so he could get home to NJ. As he drove away I noticed he had Maryland plates.

I got hit at Sheetz on CR/235. The story was he came down from College Park with some friends, got left at the Green Door and needed money to get home.

Told him it sounds like he needs better friends and I ain't one of them.

We had the same thing happen here. One of my co-workers gave the guy $40; I told him I thought he was being scammed. He said he would rather be scammed than let a person really in need go without. I ponied up $20 to split what I thought would be a loss. The guy offered to leave his hammer drill. He didn't. Said he would be back tomorrow to pay him back; he didn't show. Similar story about wife working at hospital.

This is just recollection, but for what it is worth:
  • white male
  • Dress: jeans, work boots, looks generally like he could reasonably be a construction worker as he claims.
  • dark, sandy blond hair
  • 5' 10" plus or minus 2"
  • ~185 lbs
That is the best of my recollection.

So, it is a scam. Be forewarned.

I have always followed one rule when dealing with panderers. Knowing that some folks are just down on their luck, if someone asks for money for food, I bring them back food for two. Cigs, gas...they are out of luck.

Last week as I was leaving my house for work, this lady came up to my car and asked me to give her a ride to Dunkirk. She said her boyfriend bought her down here and then went crazy on her. When I told her no that I could not, she asked me for money, and I told her no I did not have any. She would not get away from my car. I told her that I would go in the house and get my husband and when we came back out of the house, she was gone. It was kind of scary to me, I've never had that happen before.

Goodness, I would be scared too...from the Baynet replies to the letter sent in, this guy has also gone up to people's home doors...that would freak me out. It's a shame he's still active...I suppose in your situation Pooh31, I would have have offered to call the police for her (but really I'd be calling for me)

I'd like to trust people, but you just never know....that's sad too.
