Cost of field trips is unreal

So as a last moment thing, wife gets called and told that one of the other parents had to drop out of the trip, Wife went in the place of the dropped out person.
Since it was a thursday night, and the trip was friday morning wife looks at me and says, do you have any cash???

So I give it to her.

they get back last night around 11:30, I listen to the play by play.
Now, remembering that I stayed home because between the wife and the child, dad only had a 1 dollar bill and some change in his pocket and since I dont do the ATM thing, I dont have a card (I cut them up so its not as easy to grab cash.) so I stayed home,,, alone.. just me and the chihuahua with the bad breath because he keeps raiding the litter box for treats.

So I ask,, do I have any change?
No.

I hope they really had a good time. ( I suspect they both did have change, however somewhere on that bus trip back, they plotted on me, They came up with matching stories as to why I dont have change.)

My high school band trip to disney world was over $500, our normal fund raiser was selling oranges, if we sold a certian amount of oranges so much was deducted from the cost. I think I sold 25 cases of oranges so I got to go free.

It irked me when she said that she thought that the money came from the teachers and administrators. We all know that the funds come from our tax dollars. It burns me, I guess. I've been broke as hell trying to raise my kids and have somehow managed to come up with the funds to pay for each one of their field trips. The schools cannot get enough money to pay for the necessities but they'll take this out of their funds?

teachers and adminstrators pay for it out of their own personal checkbook... that's what i meant when i said they come up with the money, or however i said it...i didnt go back and re-read exactly what i said previously. i didnt say they take their school budget (your tax dollars) and use it to pay for field trips for the few that do not have the money. hope this makes more sense.
