#######s. But my cc company rocks and notified me immediately, then canceled the card.

And it's even a stupid criminal story:

Apparently they jacked the number and made a plastic card, then used it in person at.....a grocery store in FL.

Now. Who steals a credit card number and goes to all the trouble of fabricating a card...only to use it in person to buy groceries?

I'm wondering if the person who used it isn't actually a criminal, but got the card through a bogus Nigerian provider. Which would make them too stupid to live, but not really criminal. Except they used it at the same store several times within a few hours. So maybe they are the criminals after all, and stupid to boot.

Some one got my credit card a few years ago. The credit card company called me and asked if I was trying to buy 15,000 printer cartridges.

Crooks are stupid.

My former neighbor (I've since moved) was eavesdropping on our cordless phone calls, got my credit card number/exp. by hearing me say it over the phone to make a purchase, and they knew my name and address also from that call. They setup an account on Figi's and used my name/card info. but had the shipment go to their home 2 streets over. My CC co. said it wasn't worth going after them for $150 in stuff so I got a new CC and I bought a newer technology cordless phone to limit the ability for people to eavesdrop. This was WAY back in the mid 1990's.

Same exact thing happened to my husband. He was sitting at his desk at work and the bank called me and asked me if he was at a Gamestop in Ohio. Stupid people. I'm just so glad banks and credit card companies can catch this.

They don't, they offer to pay for someone else's groceries in exchange for the cash. Same thing happened to me recently, they were getting paid in cash for gas and using my card to fill up the tanks.

Ahhhhh.......okay! That makes more sense.

But who falls for that? Some stranger approaches you at the grocery store and says, "Hey, will you give me cash and I'll put your purchases on my credit card?" The person with the cash almost has to be in on it.

Although the stupidity of our fellow man stopped surprising me a long time ago.

They got mine just after Christmas this year. Used it once to get $500 in cash from a Best Buy in Philly, then tried it again for another $500 at another store. That one got bounced. CC company called me right away to tell me they had already killed the card. Issued me a new one.

$500 seems to be a trend here, huh?

Usually the crook will say - give me $100 and I'll charge your $150 groceries on my CC. The person paying the cash gets a "deal".

I believe the 900 MHz and below on cordless phones can be picked up on scanners. I have one above and below, the one below is going to the dump soon, but I can here all the static when some ones scanner is tuned in on it. I have a scanner that I don't use much. The good phone is about 2.something MHz. So many dam criminals out there, crazy. Nothing worse than some taking your hard earned money.

I hate AmEx, they are such a PITA to deal with in almost every aspect. If it weren't for our corporate clients who use it we wouldn't even accept their card.

I had someone steal my card and bought a plane ticket lady year. I thought that was dumb since it's fairly obvious who is using the ticket.

They are good at catching this stuff now. One was even dumber than yours.
A few bucks charged for phone calls. Last one which I think got hacked on Amazon was for a plane ticket from Saudi land to the USA. Then I got blocked for buying a big screen TV one day and a Blue ray player the next. Guess I should have bought the same day?

You'll have to define stupid here..

As in, were they caught, have they been arrested?

Or has the bank just accepted the loss, and covering the amount they've stolen and blocked the card??

I'm presuming it's the second, which means in the end they didn't steal from you, but somebody else, AND have gotten away with it.

I would also ASSUME.. that fabricating a card, only means coding a piece of plastic with a magnetic strip on it with your cards info.. 3 seconds tops..
