Like this wasn't a clue that she was in trouble??She said that three-quarters of her income went to paying rent
A 19 yr old is most likely struggling also. I'd be pretty irritated if my parent needed financial help from me if I was only 19-ESPECIALLY if she was irresponsible with her finances.
It's one thing to let a parent live with you, but to financially support them?
she is 67, it is doubtful any of her kids are younger than 27....
but still, its your mom. how can you not help her? It might not be the most fun thing to do, but she needs you.
its a no brainer, you help your mom.
its not like she is on welfare and not working.....
you are correct about this.she is 67, it is doubtful any of her kids are younger than 27....

Like I said, it's not like I wouldn't let her live with me, but if I was also financially unstable (as most 19 yr olds are), I would not (and probably could not) support her.
She should have known better to get into that predicament. Too bad, so sad. Maybe she's not living with her kids because she was a crappy parent and they hate her?
I'd definitely take the dogs though.
speaking from experience?
my mom would be living with me before she is sleeping in a car, thats for sure. even if she was financially irresponsible.

\I take it you haven't had the joy of constantly helping people out of trouble, then seeing them go right back into it. I have.
I've rescued relatives from bad situations too many times. It finally got to the point I had to say no.
I'm reading my own experience into this situation, but if she has three kids that aren't helping, maybe she burned that bridge?
Maybe they are setting limits that she is unwilling to live with?
Maybe there is substance abuse involved?
Maybe her kids are worse off than she is?

thats a lot of maybes.....
what i do know is that i wouldn't let my mom live in her car.
we would have rules and limits at my house, but she wouldn't be in her car until she effed up at my house. Its your mom for christ's sake.
I'm betting she did eff up at her kids homes.

If I was 19, I would not want to have to support my grown mother who was stupid enough to live in a place that took the majority of her income. Damn, couldn't she see that was stupid?
St. Thomas doesn't have to read. He knows the answers to all.Didn't read the article I take it.

The insurance companies also rob drivers who are under 25. My insurance payment is slightly over $400/month. The freakin' car costs less than that. Insurance is mandatory in Maryland.
Guess what? No insurance, no car, no job, no money.

I'm 20. I make a decent amount of money. But, not enough to support my mom, even if she had her own job.

Don't get me ranting on the rest of it. I'm glad St. Thomas thinks it's up to a 19 year-old kid to support their parents. But, he's obviously not living in the real world.
