crying?

So sometimes when i put the little one to bed he cries. of course I run in there to get him and rock him to sleep, i hate hearing him cry. I'm afraid im spoiling him.

my question is, how long do you let babies cry when you put them to bed?
do you let them cry at all?
Do you go in there and pick him up when he crys really loud?

I just don't know what to do some nights. It's not me im worried about it's the baby i hate hearing him cry.

Nice dry diaper, full tummy, kiss on the forehead... Gotta let them cry Momma. I know it's hard but baby's tears are a form of manipulation.

I would think as a baby and having noise around all day then having none in a quiet room would be pretty scary. Mine is 3 now and we still turn the CD on every night though it has gone from lullabyes to the sound track of SHREK. LOL

You are doing a great job! The CD's are great advice. Don't cave in Mom.

I did the same. Hard habit to break and I am the dad! Baby did not sleep in her crib till I went away on business trip and my wife finally could do it without me crying and whining!!!!! When I came home I was crib checking constantly till I finally relaxed. Baby monitor helps. Maybe a video monitor would help you relax. Babies are gonna cry. Just the way it is.

but he sounds like hes in pain

just had his 6 month shots yesterday...
gave him a dose of tylenol
and some diluted juice...

and hes sitting on my lap...lol.

he usually goes to bed no later than 8 or 9

They still have the scent of mom which helped them lay there and fall asleep most of the time. Let your baby cry and adjust to having to fall asleep. It's so sweet when you check in on them and they have there little arms wrapped around your robe.

awww. he sleeps with his daddy's teddy at night. the same one his daddy used to have at his age. he usually goes to bed just fine with a bottle, but he gets cranky after those darn shots.

Years ago a doctor told me that after the boys got their shots to go buy a can of soda. I would put it on the injection site for a couple of minutes on and then a couple of minutes off. He said to do that until the can was room temperature. That helped a lot and we didn't have the cranky baby from a sore leg that night. Hey, it's worth a try the next time

Thankfully both mine are great sleepers but when they first started protesting sleep at that age I picked up a celtic lullabies CD that seemed to mesmerize them. Keep with a little routine to gear him down prior to bedtime. I had dry skinned babies so it was a nightly rubdown with lotion, toothbrushing, an elaborate tucking in ceremony with favorite blankets, bears, the same CD playing, and a little pretty nightlight that made a moving light pattern on the ceiling. As they got older the props were removed one by one. Hang tough, it's sad but necessary unless you want the kid up with you till midnight everynight.

That is one I never thought of.

First born would only sleep in his "car carrier" first six weeks. My daughter though was always a handful. I could go in and pat her on her "tookey" for a few minutes and off to sleep she would go. Sometimes when she is restless at night and complaining at age 6; I can still give her a few pats on the "Tookey" and off to sleep she goes.


Wow I still miss the newborne days. I donot miss buying diapers etc. I never minded changing them though.

And then there are some that use the Ferber Method and let thier children cry themselves to sleep, it s all a matter of preference. These days its one book (not a long one) and a DVD, CD or his MP3 player, he LOVES The Beatles and Bob Dylan.

I can't wait until he is old enough to read, almost not qutie there yet. In books I will point to words he knows or can sound out fairly easy and he'll say them. This summer he'll read 3 words a day from the dictionary (a children's dictionary).

This summer I am gona require one of them to pick a letter and then dictionary or thesaurus. Oh I can not wait til I have them with me everyday.

He'll do fine. Crying is pretty much their only means of communicating and until they mature a little, just about everything is going to make them cry - bored, frustrated, tired, hot, cold - so it's unavoidable. And just cause they're crying about something doesn't mean that getting what they want is the best thing for them. I've had enough fights with a little boy who wants goldfish and not green beans or who wants candy and not his mac and cheese. A little boy who cries when he doesn't want to be changed, or who cries when his toy doesn't do what he thought it would do (like, *fly*). A little boy who cries when I stop him from putting a car key in the electric socket.

They're just going to cry. Eventually, you'll get very good at distinguishing the real cry from the phoney ones.
