Customer Service

I moved to So. MD a little over ten years ago. The lack of customer service used to really bother me, but over the years I've grown accustomed to it. There are some places that are really good and others that aren't. I try to avoid the ones that I don't like and leave it at that. However, I went to one of the places that I really, really hate to patronize. The McDonalds in Solomons. I know better than to expect to actually get what I order. I know the service will be slow. I know the "crew" will be rude. I know the floors will be sticky and the counters will be dirty. I know that if I don't pay the exact amount I will not get the correct change. I know these things and have accepted them, but I didn't know that I would catch them on a bad day.

The girl at the fry machine was very angry. She was slamming the fry baskets into the holders with a loud crash. The young man standing behind the counter was in charge of filling orders, but not taking them. No one was taking them. For 10 minutes no one was taking them (after about 3 or 4 minutes I asked my son if he wanted to go elsewhere. We decided to wait it out and see how bad it would get). Then the manager appeared from the back room. He hurried to the front and asked the young man filling orders what was the problem. The young man said, "Dey needaorda", and promptly walked away. The manager turned to us and welcomed us to McDonalds. We each ordered a #2 (1/4 pounder with cheese meal). The manager turned around to look at the screen and was going to fill our order, but alas, no quarter pounders in the bin. The fry girl yelled back that it was past the time she was supposed to get off and she was leaving. No one said anything, and she left. The manager was now in the back helping two members of the crew make burgers. The young man who was filling orders was now in the back helping make burgers also. I noticed that the fry girl was also apparently the drive-thru girl. There was no one working the drive thru and the car that was in front of the window when we arrived at the counter was still there. The fry machine was beeping, but everyone was making burgers. Then a guy in a yellow jacket that said "Drive-thru crew" appeared from the first window. When he arrived at the second window he noticed that no-one was filling orders. He said, "Hey, no one's filling drive thru orders." The manager said, "Fill the orders." He said, "I'm working the register." The manager said, "Fill the orders." He mumbled something, took the fries out of the grease and stopped the beeping then walked back to window #1. The manager came to the front and picked up a bag left on the drive thru counter and handed it out the window. I'm guessing that fry girl filled the order prior to her departure, but failed to deliver it to the customer. The young man who was originally filling orders returned to the front of the store, looked at my son and me and stated "We're waitin' on fries". He picked up a couple of cardboard boxes and stuffed them into a bag along with some napkins. He then went back around and to the cooking side and began making burgers again. A few minutes later he scooped up some fries from the batch that had been dumped by the guy in the yellow jacket (they were just fine by the way) and dropped them into the bag, handed us our meal and said, "Thanks". We said, "Thanks". We walked over to the counter, unpacked our bag and my son enjoyed his #1 (Big Mac), while I chowed down on my #3 (double 1/4 pounder w/cheese).

I don't know where they get these managers. It's like they'll take any idiot. I guess because around here there are so many decent jobs that the only one they can get to manage a fast food restaurant *are* idiots.

It does annoy me that there is no place to satisfy a McDonald's craving around here. I gave up on the G.M. road and San Souci locations long ago, but the Solomons one was still ok if I happened to be on the other side of the bridge. Until about a year ago. Now I won't go to that one, either. It's just like paul described.

They still have a leg up on the Solomons Burger King, though. They hire borderline psychopaths, and the last time I was in there they were out of burgers. :jameo: I wish I was kidding.

I said, doesn't the sign outside say "burger" something? Like, "Burger King?" They didn't understand. :ohwell:

I stopped at the Solomons KFC one evening and they were out of chicken? WTF? Why stay open?

I think Vrai is right. There are so many good jobs that they have to settle for whoever is willing to collect a small paycheck.

The truth is with a little planning, you can get a better meal at the same price at better places. Why fight McD's in LP area?

When I find an inept place, I never go there again. That's about as much as I have time and desire to do.

I was cussed out by a young lady because I refused to pull forward in the drive thru (mind you there were no cars behind me).

The drive thru is suppose to be quick service. They finally brought our orders out and quickly ran back inside. I ended up going inside anyway, waited another 10 minutes for them to provide me with the correct order.

Needless to say, I may have been cussed out but I got my order (it was still wrong) but as hungry as I was, at least I didn't have to wait 30 minutes to finally eat it. So I did learn one thing, don't pull forward when asked. Stay put, you will get to eat sooner!

That was about 1 year and 1/2. And my son gave up asking. Burger King at least finally cleaned house, at least the last time I was in there everything was as it should have been, we don't go there very often either....

I went to the Solomons Burger King about 2 years ago. There was probably only 3 other cars in front of me in the drive thru. When the girl working the speaker asked if she could take my order, I asked her if she could give me a minute. She said to me "you couldnt look at the first menu?". The first menu was still the breakfast menu and it was around 2 in the afternoon. So I apologized and politely ordered about 25 dollars in value meals. When I approached the window, the girl had what looked like my entire order sitting in the window. At least I think she did, I couldn't tell because I just drove right by her and over to Mc Donald's. I couldn't help but laugh as I reached into my Double Quarter pounder box only to find a fish sandwich which I washed down with watered down coke. IM LOVIN' IT. Karma........

The Solomons KFC is ALWAYS out of chicken. I just don't get how a chicken place can be out of chicken.

The McDonalds in Mechanicsville, Prince Frederick, San Souci, and the one that's moving from next to Big Lots to the Square are all own by the same people. I don't know about the one in Solomons. In my opinion, they all have the same low level of service.

The McDonald's in Solomons has been the worst of the awful since day one.I get a terrible urge for a #6 and every few months I'll see if they have improved and end up somewhere else.

While I agree that customer service sucks around here, I must say that last night my family and I went to California Wendy's (in front of Walmart) and had a great experience. First, they were very polite and prompt. I ordered and then changed my order with no complaints from them. Then when my hubby picked up the tray, he spilt his large soda and a fry. They quickly replaced the drink and food (for free) and then cleaned up our mess. They get a HUGE :yay: from me!

If you drive slightly farther up the road, there's a wonderful chicken place in Lusby. :yay: I wouldn't mess with KFC.

Wow!

I had no idea so many people ate fast food (term used loosely). I thought it was just for kids.

And to think we line up and spend Millions of dollars a year to get treated this way. And these restaraunts are making millions on us, Just think how much money they could make if they hired hard working responsible people !!

Hey.... I think the rest of us in retail have it wrong...instead of trying to please customers we should just pizz them off and they'll keep comming back for more , just like McDonalds....

:killingme I remember stopping at a Subway in the Keys years ago. They were out of meat, entirely out of any meat to put on the sandwiches, but were still open and trying to sell sandwiches.

But that's not the funny part. The funny part is that they had the nerve to act surprised and offended when we cancelled our orders and left!
