Now I'm going to take my speculation a little bit further here. Y'all remember that fake Volkswagen commercial back in the day that was never officially aired should a guy setting off suicide vest inside of golf and it was just puff and noise. Nothing else happened.

My speculation is that the steel outer panels of that truck kept things from being worse. I'm also going to go a little bit further out of the limb and say I don't think the main pack ever caught on fire.

Let me emphasize I'm quite sure this was not what explosive experts would consider a "real" explosive device, not a high order detonation. I'm going to bet it was a bunch of cobbled together fireworks.

Between Munro and the folks who make it happen. Even if you hate the thing, interesting to see how they tackled the challenges of making it.



High points are good looks at the structure, including the front and rear castings, and technical discussions about the 48 volt architecture and looks at the power electronics that enable it to charge at the same speed for both 400 and 800 volts and power your house.

So, based on this photo, I can say for sure the big battery was not involved in the fire. Looks like the explosion blew the tonneau cover off, popped the tailgate open, and blew the partition window, allowing fire into the cabin, and blew the cabin windows out.

They were probably hoping the battery would go.

Then they should have placed the "explosive" on top of the battery. . But while I reading this guy was technically Special Forces, when you dive in he was support staff, not an operator. Which would explain why he built such a crappy "bomb".

Yeah, they missed the sweet spot on both price and range. I know that's what killed it for me.. I could live with the range, but not at that price. But its early days, we shall see what happens, look at what Model 3 and Y prices have done over the last three years. They have still sold as many or more of these in a year than Rivian has pickups in three years. Battery production costs will continue to drop, manufacturing efficiency will continue to increase. If they can get these priced at say 5K over the initial estimates off 40, 50 and 70k, they will sell a lot of them. And of course assuming the cultural zeitgeist around them tapers off a bit :)
