My daughter would like to take dance classes. We live in Charles County. I've looked on line and I've found some, however I would like to know if anyone has any suggestions on the best studio or what studio to stay away from. Thanks!

Our daughter just had her recital last Saturday. She's 6. 3rd year of dance. 3rd school.
1st school - Sharons. sucked
2nd school - Extreme in Charlotte Hall - too pricey, not the best of instruction
3rd school - Judy's in La Plata - EXTREMELY happy with this school. They will be getting my dance money for as long as my daughter(s) are in dance.

How old is your child? And what are you looking for? The quality dance studio's in Charles County are Dance Depot and GJ's. Both are very good and offer great instruction. They are both right around the corner from each other also. Sharon's and Judy's are good for getting and experience for or "testing the water". Most studio's offer summer classes which are great to see if your child likes it. But if you want good instruction Dance Depot or GJ's are the best choices. Both have websites also you can check out.

What can I say? I think that the students should actually know the steps for the recital (this includes the ones that are "competition" students. Too many "hoochy" moves for my tastes too.

About 18 or 19 years ago my friend was in GJ's. My parents refused to go there because their routines were pure trash. They were damn near dry humping on stage. They were 12-14 years old. They did a Madonna "Vogue" routine that was so risque for any preteen/teen to be doing. I can also remember the class one step above them that was mostly 15-17 years olds doing Salt N' Peppa's "Push It".

I'll agree, when we were at Sharons; the weren't really concerned with the girls knowing the routines... The weekend before the show, all the girls were starting their dance moves off on different legs(some would start on the left, while others started on the right)... My wife asked the instructor, which leg should our daughter start of with.. and the answer she got was "oh it really doesn't matter, which ever leg they want........." :eyebrow:

There is a ballet studio also. I think it is called The Waldorf Ballet Academy??? I am not 100% on that. It is on the corner of leanordtown road and 301, The old Waldorf School, next to Checkers.

I enrolled my Daughter in Dreams Studio of Dance last year. I love it there, the teachers are great and my daughter has learned so much there in only a year. They offer everything from ballet to gymnastics tap, jazz the list goes on. I know you live in Charles but you should check it out its only about 20 mins from waldorf. Its located in Mechanicsville. 301-884-8842
