...you guys are getting terrible!

You know you're in a gay bar if you grab a seat at the bar and someone offers to push your stool in for you.

The good thing is that you only need one bar stool to seat four. Just turn the bar stool upside down.

"WASHINGTON BLADE SURVEY REVEALS
STEEP DROP IN REVENUE FOR SOME,
WHILE OTHERS RELUCTANT TO DISCUSS NEW LAW"

"VENUE TO SEEK HARDSHIP WAIVER FROM SMOKING BAN"

-- Washington Blade, Top News Story,
Page One, Local News,

"WASHINGTON BLADE -- Five of the nine D.C. gay bars,
restaurants and nightclubs responding to an informal
Washington Blade survey said they have experienced
a decline in revenue and customers as a result of the
city's new smoking ban, which took effect Jan. 2. . . .

"'The word out among insiders in the nightlife and
hospitality industry across the city is almost everyone
has had a drop in business because of this,'
[Washington gay nightlife advocate Mark] Lee said.
'For PR reasons and for competitive, proprietary
reasons, most establishments don't want to talk about
this publicly.'

"Earlier this month, the Restaurant Association of
Metropolitan Washington, which represents restaurants
and bars, released the findings of its own survey, which
showed more than 35 percent of those responding
reported a decline in revenue since the smoking ban
took effect. Its survey wasn't limited to gay
establishments. . . .

"'My accountant's eyes jumped wide open when he saw
the numbers,' [D.C. Eagle owner Bill] Capello said. 'I had
to cut payroll and cut back on the hours of work for the
staff.' . . .

"Joey Oldaker, general manager of the Dupont Circle
establishments Apex nightclub and Omega bar, both
owned by gay businessman Glen Thompson, said the
two clubs each suffered a decline in patrons and
revenue but not enough to make the clubs eligible for
a waiver [requiring a loss of 15% of total gross revenue
under Mayor Adrian Fenty's proposed regulations].

"'We raised prices slightly to make up for some of the
lost revenue,' Oldaker said.

"'Our biggest concern is the people who go outside to
smoke. We're nearly surrounded by condos and the
noise created by the people outside smoking could
create problems.' . . . "

O.K. In an environment where these fags are exposing themselves to the HIV and will likely die from AIDS, why are we concerned about them being exposed to cigarette smoke?

Good point. They should be much more worried about slipping and falling into a puddle of AIDS at the bar or who is on the other end of the Glory Hole than they should be about second hand smoke.

Yeah, they need to ban patrons from blowing on the skin flute in these places. At least when it comes to cigarettes, you know it's never been in someone's nasty azz before.

...if it's a gay bar, straight bar or a candy bar; this establishes a DIRECT governmental role in the profitability of private business conducting LEGAL affairs all in the name of a public health issue that DOES NOT EXIST.

Government has NO business in regulating smoking, seatbelt wearing or what you eat OR HOW MUCH MONEY YOU MAKE. PSA's? Sure, all day and every day. No one ever had to mandate lite beer; it took off of it's own (read the publics) accord. No one ever said 'you must eat jelly beans'; A president had a jar on his desk.

Where is a judge to throw this garbage out????????????????????

well that ####### professer @ Georgetown? wants to start suing resturant over whats on the menu, or if they fry in trans fatty oils or not ..... like it is a business owners to see we eat healthily ..... if were not careful, we are going to end up in a society like the future in Demolition Man, where salt, fats , etc were all baned in the name of public health .......... oh and tacobell was the only food place to eat @ .......... i love Dennis Learys speech in that movie ....

I think Denis Leary said it best in "Demolition Man"

"I'm the enemy because I like to think. I like to read. I'm into freedom of speech and freedom of choice. I'm the kind of guy that could sit in a greasy spoon and wonder, gee, should I have the T-bone steak or the jumbo rack of barbecue ribs or the side order of gravy fries? I want high cholesterol. I would eat bacon and butter and buckets of cheese. Okay? I want to smoke Cuban cigars the size of Cincinnati in the nonsmoking section. I want to run through the streets naked with green Jell-O all over my body reading Playboy magazine. Why? Because I might suddenly feel the need to. Okay, pal?"

55% of 5% of the bars in the city report a decline and that shows a problem? The problem may or may not exist, but there is no proof in this article.

It will be interesting to see if the city has the courage to do a real analysis. They collect taxes based on the income of every bar in DC. If there is a real decrease, that is the best way to prove it. It would also be an easy wat to silence critics if there is no revenue decrease. Will the release the data?

 Let the good times roll. So people didn't go to DC to party because you can't smoke so they went to Baltimore for awhile. Now that smoking is going through the same process in Md. people will run to Va.
Lets get something else STRAIGHT here... lol. The District of Columbia is the only authority that may dictate how you will die. Your short life may end in any number of ways... stabbing, shooting, any number of blood borne pathogens, anthrax/sniper terrorist attack, being run over, smog, poor quality living conditions, drinking water, crappy building codes, drug overdose,
become a victim of any number of crimes relying on 911 to defend you, and they can convince you that its a classy city because after all, they have capitol hill in their city, but out of all the ways you can die, you may not die of 2nd hand smoke in bars.... :wench:

I wouldn;t trust a cigarette at any of these places. Those gay people probably only wear skin tight pants. The only place left to keep their cigs is up inside their prison wallets.

You're right. I forgot about the old prison wallet. For those who've never heard this one before, this is how inmates smuggle drugs and cigarettes into jail. Knowing that they will be thoroughly searched, there's only one place to hide these things where the guards ain't likely gonna look. Just another reason to stay on the right side of the law.

Hey PINGRR, please tell me why your signature says you are a proud member of NAMBLA. I would like to think that you didn't put that on your profile. If you did, you need some serious help and lots of red karma. Do you know what NAMBLA stands for? It's really sick stuff!

Oooh, you got me. I missed that hard on comment in my post. THere's nothing in a gay bar that will ever cause me to have one of those. Wait a minute. Do good looking lesbians go into gay bars? That might do it.
