Dear Kitten Rescuers:

Help?

I scooped up the kittens from under the pier because the momma cat had been having litters there for years. There was also an ongoing incident where someone (dumbazz) complained about their child being bitten by one of the kittens so AC was involved and wanted to trap and euthanize them. I got the last two and was going to reunite them with the individual who had been able to catch the rest of the litter a few days before.

You wanted Gidget...even after thinking about it that night and into the next day..you came to my house to get her. :neener:

As for Kiki, you knew she came back because I'd posted pictures, etc. You wanted her too. And whenever I see you, you bug me about wanting Chloe, Kiki's sister.

No foisting of kittens here. :lmao:

Oh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! How now, brown cow????

*I* rescued neither Kiki nor Gidget. I merely gave them a home once someone else *ahem* decided they should live.

And that's my point - Catt, when was the last time you saw me take in an abandoned litter?

SO is the same way...telling me we can't foster and I am too upset about euthanizing animals (but when I get my house I don't care what he says) but he's the same one who was guilty for DAYS when he went and picked up our female kitten and couldn't save more...:killingme

It is simple...you cannot resist the furry purry goodness of a kitty..unless you are a psychopath.:otter:

Well, perhaps it was the "sodas" but your azz was right out there with mine that evening trying to catch those little guys. Not one time did you utter the words, "there are too many kittens...leave them to their fate."

And...Gidget was a little thing and required special care.

You're on your own here.

So, in your opinion, willful, unlicensed kitten wrangling, eh?

But whose idea was it, hmmm??

Eh, it was just a hernia - vet fixed it when she spayed her.

This is a serious question, not a knock on you all:

With the vast number of kittens we are inundated with each and every year, why do you work to save the sickly and abandoned ones and nurse them back to health? It makes no sense to me because there is no shortage of kittens, and by saving ones that should rightfully die, you just have to find homes for them eventually, which takes away a home from another deserving kitten.

Why not cull the herd, so to speak, and let the weaklings die off so that other kittens don't have to compete with them for a home?

I fully agree with you!

Not everyone understands "triage" when it comes to rescue.

I do not save every animal...euthanizia is a form of treatment for those animals too sick or have too much trauma to survive to be released back into the wild. Dont care if it is a bald eagle or a hummingbird...If it can not be rehabbed and released it has to be euthanized.

Same goes with dog and cat rescue.

There is no shortage of these animals, but there is a shortage of foster homes and forever homes.
Not to mention the shortage of funds to pay for trying to save all the sick/orphaned
ones.
A lot of people who do good and rescue each and every stray/sick kitten do so because of ego and the inability to set limits and boundries, and to say NO once in a while.

Until there is a true shortage of dogs and cats, humane euthanizia is a practical means to "cull the heard".
Or until we get a healthy population of coyotes to do the thinning out...

Shockingly, I think Katelin and I are on the same page. :faint: Usually she wants to rip my ass for me for something.

Sick, meaning it wouldn't live without hand feeding or extensive (and expensive) vet care. At least, that's what I'm referring to as "sick".

If it's just hand feeding, Katelin ain't on the same page. And, Vrai, how do you feel about what Katelin does with wildlife. Should all those baby opossums, raccoons, squirrels, injured birds, etc. be left to die..after all...that's just natural selection right? You know survival of the fittest, etc.

I'm not getting into the argument because I do what I do, but I believe I am very reasonable in my feelings on saving orphans. However, there is a big difference in feeding healthy kittens that are orphaned and paying a lot of vet bills to save a very sick kitten.

I'm not looking for an argument, just interested in *why*. What exactly are your feelings on saving orphans? And then finding homes for all of them?

Not an attack, just interested in the mindset.
