The college girl calls Larry yesterday (she knows better than to call me with this stuff) and wants to know if any birthday money has started showing up yet. Um, no - your birthday isn't for another month.

She's down to her last $100. From the $2000 she started out with when she graduated high school in June.  Not to mention the money she made working over the summer.

Since we're paying her tuition, room, board, meal card, books, etc., I can only assume that that $2000+ has been dispersed at various bars and restaurants in Greenwich Village.

So, in one month, she's gone from a gal with a nice stash of cash to a poor college kid. A nice little real-world lesson for her, don't you think?

Tell your daughter to get a job at the college library, where she can study while working. She'll be able to work at least 20 hours a week and get her studies done.

Repete
Tell her she can get $10 for a pint of blood. $20 is she has a rare blood type like me

Can she sing and play the guitar? Tell her to find a good street corner; the money trough from home has run dry.

Now let's all collectively tell Larry what a bad idea it would be to feel sorry for her and send her some cash.

Sharon, if he shows up on your doorstep looking for shelter, you'll know what happened.

But wait, there's more...
Maybe this would be a good opportunity for her to learn about loans with interest.

You're not alone Vrai. Friend of mine had the same situation when her daughter went to NYU. Everything was more expensive, but daughter wanted to keep up with her "standard of living". Ran out of cash (around $5K) by early October. Called to beg for more. Her mom was livid, but made a care package. In it was a hot plate, a pan, and a can of beans. The note read "Get used to it."

Vrai, she isn't the type to call her siblings and say "I'm up here starving and Ma & Pa won't send me any cash. Send me some of yours please!" is she?

May wanna put the others on notice! AND let this serve as an example to them when they hit college! :yay:

That would certainly be ballsy on her part, considering the only sibling she has that is financially solvent is her dear brother who is sitting in an Army base in Iraq, dodging mortar attacks while she parties it up in New York.
