Dear Lord, help me be strong

Aren't there magazines and video makers looking for nice young ladies to "work" for them, especially in New York? College girls always have a way of making a killing.

It'a a tough way to learn how to manage your money alright. Sort of like going off to the military as a private, or whatever the other services designate the lowest rank to be. I lived from paycheck to paycheck for 2 years before "suddenly" wising up that this was merely surviving. I got a part time job doing entry level carpentry work, after my shifts were done, and that suplimented my weak military pay.

I'm in favor of her getting a part time job in a the campus bookstore, library, or other clerical type position.

She have any skills learned yet? What did she do before entering college?

Sad as it may sound, even though you and Larry sent her off with a good stash of dough, she didn't do too good with managing it. You're probably going to have to help her for a little while longer, but she has to learn your pockets/pocketbooks don't contain an endless supply of money.

She has to help herself as well; and that means a job, and a weekly/monthly budget.

Oh, she's got a job - but it's a new one and she hasn't gotten a paycheck yet. I think she should waitress, personally, because you make cash every night.

Her problem is she's living it up - going to shows, going to restaurants, going to clubs, that sort of thing. We're going up at the end of the month for parent's weekend and I'll buy her some "essentials" (you ladies know what I'm talking about). Other than that, she's got shelter, she's got a meal card, she's got her books, tuition, laptop with high speed, cellphone and free transportation via the NYU bus.

She is officially a broke college kid who has to learn to manage her money. Oh well.

Are any of her first year classes economics? Sounds like she needs a crash course (oh wait, she knows how to crash already). :killingme

Just having fun at your expense, don't take anything I post in this thread seriously but this. Kids keep costing parents for years after you think they are gone and no longer a burden. Get used to that idea.

Ah, she has a job. OK, all ain't that bleak then! She may have to cut back drastically until she learns how to budget her money better, but look at it from another perspective: think about how she must have felt, whe she totaled up her on-hand cash, and saw how low it had gotten! It was probably quite a shock, and don't doubt for a second she knew darn well what you'd be thinking!

Hopefully, it was lesson #1, as in "I can't keep this "good life up" in perpetuality!"

Talk to her, as Mom: Ask, "Did you learn anything?"

I was thinking Escort Service... I understand that they can pull down $300 for 10 minutes of ... uh... work!

Seriously - she should live it up! The real world of daily life and making ends meet just comes way too fast. One minute you're in school with your summers free, and the next minute you're 30, married and trying to squeeze an entire week of days off around your primary responsibilities.

God, you sound just like Larry. And I just paid you a big compliment in the :gossip: forum, too.

(I'm starting to scare myself, speaking in emoticons the way I do.)

:howdy:

I keep thinking how nice it would be to have all the nice things we work hard for, all year round - but still have that summer vacation to enjoy it!
