You're right. I said "if you're willing to spend $800" might as well go with a Mac. It's only a few bucks more.

Because for those few bucks (it's only $200) you also get much less. You get a smaller, lower resolution screen, less RAM, slower processor, and no optical drive! Where do I sign up? :sarcasm:

Okay I'm going to chime in here on this one. I paid $800 dollars for a 17" Asus laptop. Was looking for a Gaming Laptop at the time. It is only slightly less powerful than the mighty Alienware laptop of the time. Asus, Abit, and Acer, produce most of the motherboards used in the Name brand computers anymore and if you buy one of the "off" brand computers you get more bang for the buck. Its a bit of a hike, but if you have to be hands on to buy, there is a MicroCenter in Rockville. They have the best selection of computer ware around the DC area that I know of. Otherwise check them out online, or try any of the other online computer stores; Neweggg, Tigerdirect, if you are a little braver Pricewatch.

GWguy is correct on 2 counts, connect it to your TV through HDMI, and an SSD drive will increase your performance noticeably, both boot time and in normal operation of most "power software" (Games, graphic editors, media apps).

I just got an HP Pavilion 17.3" from Staples this week and I really like it so far. It does not have a touchscreen but I have a ipad for that. The price was right for me. Only thing is that it is actually 449.99 then you have to send in or register online for the 50.00 rebate. I attached the link so you can check it out.

I have been happiest with my little Toshiba Satellite 750, bad luck with HP and Del. Don't remember what it cost. Not bad though.

Finally someone with taste in a GOOD brand LOL Loving my Asus laptop! HP and Dell I hate with a passion anymore, have had laptops by both companies and the quality of the Asus is so much better!

BTW there is a Microcenter in Fairfax off of 66 and Nutley street in fairfax va, a lot closer than Rockville, its where I buy most of my computer related stuff

Thanks for all the input... I'mma get something figured out and have one next month :yay:

Look at processor speed and type. Also check both installed memory and maximum memory (it's easy to add a memory chip). If you want to hook it up to a HD TV, make sure it has a HDMI output
Check out some sites like NewEgg.con and TigerDirect.com and see what's available in your price range

The Micro center in Rockville is also considerably larger, and has much more selection. I usually don't make a trip up there for just them but if I go up there for any reason I make time to stop in, They always have some good unadvertised bargains. And yes my Asus rocks! Best laptop I have ever owned. Being a 17" display it isn't for the weak, but I love the resolution.
