Just thought I'd share with you all parts of an article I was reading in the local paper on Friday. As many are aware, this is the time of year deers are on the run, bucks chasing does and kids leaving mothers to travel about 4 miles away (remember this is what the article said, dont know and don't care if its true)... the point was, they run in November and pointed out the fact that alot of deer get hit by drivers that are driving occupied and not giving driving their undivided attention. Their point was (and of course its sad to hit a deer or any animal) but when you see a deer jump out in front of you, many people have the first reaction to slam the brakes on. They said its good to slam your breaks on, but right before you hit the deer, they advise people to release the break and hit it deadon. Apparently when you slam your brakes on you force the front of your vehicle in a downward direction thereby allowing the deer to propel itself up the hood and through your windshield which can cause serious injury to the driver and passenger of the vehicle. If you just hit it deadon by not slamming breaks on, the brunt of the damage is done to your grill of your vehicle and not you or your passenger. Just thought I'd share.
Though I think its sad for a deer to get hit in the first place, let alone worrying abuot where his body will land, but it made sense and in a sincere effort to protect forumites I thought I'd pass on the information.
