My desktop is dying fast. Have an HP that we bought at Best Buy about 4-5 years ago and have had nothing but trouble with it (1st comp was HP that lasted for 8 years). Any suggestions? was also thinking about the All in One of some brand, maybe a touch screen. Open for any input to help me decide. Thanks

Personally, I have owned Dell's for a long time. Yes, you hear some complaints but every vendor has a few problems. I've owned HP, Acer, etc. and others. The PRIMARY reason I ended up going (and staying) with Dell is upgrades. The first time you want to upgrade (memory, etc.) a laptop - is the first time you experience the "challenge" of finding a compatible component. I never had this problem with Dell since they sell upgrades (memory, etc.) right on their website.

"Brand" no longer seems to be an indicator of quality. If you've got basic skills, get a kit and assemble the componets yourself. Both TigerDirect and NewEgg have nice ones that save a lot of bucks

I just purchased 2 new Dell laptops; Have an older Dell that I had to replace the screen on after 5 yrs, no other problems, bought a HP Presario in 2009 and while not having any issues with it's reliability, I like the Dell better, just a personal opinion

A close friend drop their Dell Laptop and destroyed the keyboard and hard drive. The Dell wasn't but a few years old but they didn't want it (really they wanted an excuse to buy a new one). They were going to throw it out and I grabbed it! I went up to the site, ordered a keyboard and a new drive - and bingo - my son had a Dell for a few hundred bucks. He has been using the puppy for three years now and loves it...:killingme

Asus - sold at best buy - the name may be new to you but Asus has been making motherboards for years so they are not new to the computer industry.

depends on what you want ......

another desktop ... Dell, HP, Gateway .... Boutique brands .... for gaming PC's

maybe a laptop .... the other brands beside the big 3 on those ...

Asus, Acer ...

net-books .....

don't discount a Mac .... you could always load windows on there as well
(yes it is has a Cadillac Price, but you get what you pay for)

personally I build my own ...... what I built 2 yrs ago for $2500 would have cost me 8k @ Alienware .....

is it really dying

...... maybe you just need a good cleaning,(blow out the dust) and a wipe and reinstall ...

looking for desktop. Here's the deal on the one I have.......2 weeks after I got it, had to send it back to HP because the hard drive crashed. They fixed it, Since then I have had to do 3 complete system recoveries (per HP Tech) because they couldn't figure out what was wrong. It constantly freezes and the fan in the hard drive is going at full force whenever I am on it. Its either dying or I am going to kill it!

we have HP's at work still running XP .... the only major issue is the hard drives wear out after 3 yrs ... and need replacing ... other that if a PC gets too uncooperative it gets re imaged

I don't waste my time .... or the companies money

is it running Vista ?

if so replace that with Windows 7.

even if HP doesn't support it ....... you will thank your self

Go with a laptop instead of a desktop. Dells makes great computers, but MAC is better! :yay:

Mac vs. PC: The stereotypes may be true - CNN.com

The results suggest Mac users can be seen, depending on your perspective, as bolder and more creative -- or elitist and more pretentious.

The report found that 67% of Mac users have a college or advanced degree, as opposed to 54% of PC users. Mac loyalists are 80% more likely than PC users to be vegetarians, and, unlike PC fans, would rather ride a Vespa scooter than a Harley.

PC users' tastes trend towards casual clothes, tunafish sandwiches, white wine, Hollywood movies, USA Today and Pepsi. Mac users prefer designer or vintage duds, hummus, red wine, indie films, The New York Times and (we're not making this up) San Pellegrino Limonata.

I ALWAYS suggest desktops if people have space for them. Unlike laptops they are upgradable and are easy to find parts for them to make them last for years and years.
Id ONLY suggest a laptop if you really need one. For around the house, desktop hands down.

You dont even want to get me started on MACs...

I love my desktop. Dell Quadcore, Radeon video card, 8 gigs of RAM, etc etc with Windows 7. My son has his laptop and about the only time I use it is to clean up the hardrive from all the crap he puts on it.

I like my desktop too, but they're no longer practical. I like convenience, and I want to be able to sit on the couch, my kitchen island, or in bed on my laptop. You can't do that with a desktop.
