I like my desktop too, but they're no longer practical. I like convenience, and I want to be able to sit on the couch, my kitchen island, or in bed on my laptop. You can't do that with a desktop.

I use my desktops for gaming and working. Neither of which I would do sitting in bed or just around the house.

For your lifestyle its worth it but not for me.

The best part about the desktop is the big screen that I got with it. I love that wide screen.

I have both. Bought them as a set at Best Buy for less than either one of them would have cost alone. Plus they came with a 17 in monitor and a printer. And a router.

Okay, printer isn't what you'd call top of the line, but it works.

Asus - sold at best buy - the name may be new to you but Asus has been making motherboards for years so they are not new to the computer industry.
Well for Laptops/Netbooks, does Asus make any desktop computers?

All the laptops I buy, I'll only consider Asus, that is all I will buy now. I've gotten for me or others in the family, toshiba and HP, all had problems, the HP spent a year dying a slow death and what they wanted for a new motherboard to fix it would have cost the same as buying a new faster laptop. I replaced it with an Asus and couldn't be happier.

If you're up to it, I 2nd the suggestion of just buying a kit online from TigerDirect or NewEgg. If you have good credit, they have interest free finiancing. (Remember, interest free finiancing you can get screwed if you don't pay off in time, then you get slammed for all the interest that accrued over the period they gave you to pay it off and its often at the highest 20% APR plus credit card rate of interest. So know what your getting into.)

Oh, and I only buy Asus or Biostar Motherboards, I've only had problems with one Asus Motherboard, after heavy use for 7 years, its capacitors blew, I got new capacitors off e-bay and soldered them in myself and that motherboard is still going strong on my daughters desktop.

My laptop has an HDMI output, I can run my big flat screen TV with it
You sure can, very easily, and while your at it, play around with Windows Media Center on your TV, you'll love it.

I ran a Home Theater PC (HTPC) with a dual tuner card in it for years on my TV, using Windows Media Center as the application, we absolutely loved it. Then COMCAST turned their system into a proprietary, show me the money, system using just the most horrible set top boxes I have ever seen in my life, and rendered that HTPC useless for TV.

I dropped COMCAST for TV and went with Dish Network, I am so much Happier, COMCAST is just the worst.
